Barat College (History)
Chicago-Kent College of Law (J.D.)
I am a practicing attorney, licensed in Illinois. My legal experience is in Criminal Law, with an emphasis in the field of Rehabilitative Justice. My undergraduate degree (with high honors) is in History, specifically American History. My current position demands that I spend much of my time teaching workshops and seminars for groups as well as conducting tutoring sessions with individuals who are in need of legal counsel or just some guidance on negotiating the Criminal Justice system. As such, I have been a tutor for the past six years.
Are you curious as to why a law is written the way it is? Why are there laws that say, "Don't do this" and laws that say "You must do this"? Would you like to learn how to interpret a statute? Do you need some assistance in learning how to understand legal precedents? What was happening during that time period that led to a law being passed or revoked?
My teaching style is interactive and I do not limit myself to conventional materials. There is much to be learned from literature, classic and contemporary, as well as television and cinema. Field trips may also form part of the curriculum.
It has been said that law is the love child of two dysfunctional parents - History and Politics. Whether you are a student at any level, paralegal or a citizen with a desire to learn more about America, the American legal system and how the two are intertwined, I can help you.
While law and law related topics are my favorite subjects, I am certified in American history, English, Government and Politics, Law, Literature, Reading, SAT Reading/Writing, Vocabulary, World History and Writing.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Public speaking has evolved from simply being a master of rhetoric, to becoming a fully actualized participant in a multimedia environment.
The effective modern public speaker must master the basics: Know the subject thoroughly - and even more important - know how to read the audience.
In addition, the excellent public speaker must master the nuances of presentation.
This includes understanding stage presence, wardrobe, correct tone of voice, physical environment, and command of a variety of electronic devices and programs.
My own experience in public speaking - over 30 years worth - has shown that, if it is not possible to remove the "butterflies in the stomach", one can teach them to fly in formation, using the skills I can teach.
I am the author of several short stories and poems, published by the, alas, defunct Roberts Publishing Company.
In addition, I have also published legal articles ranging from methods of capital punishment to the difficulties of expunging juvenile criminal records to problems associated with criminal identity theft.
