I am a special education teacher that has been working with students from kindergarten through high school for 20 years. My strengths lie in my ability to break information into manageable chunks and create anchors to help students make connections to the materials they are learning. I encourage students to learn and incorporate strategies which will create lifelong learning opportunities. Each student is unique in their interests, abilities and motivations. By recognizing and using the individual's learning style and strengths, each student can find success.

I have my undergraduate degree in special education from Illinois State University. In addition, I have my teaching credentials for elementary education. Also, I received my master's in art of education from Aurora University. I recently added an endorsement for ELL from University of St. Francis.

I have taught reading on the middle school and high school level for 20 years. At this level, I often find students who have struggled for years with reading. In working with new and struggling readers I found great success helping students get a sense of both sight words and phonics. I am a visual learner and I have come to understand that by tapping into the way we learn best, we can achieve understanding. As a result, I try to determine the student's learning styles and develop strategies to help the student find success. One strategy includes developing anchors, which makes connections from the concepts already known to the new concepts.

In addition, I have my coursework and credentials in Elementary Education as well as an endorsement in ESL. By helping students understand how they learn best we can tailor study methods to the individual. We can create connections between what the student already knows and what they are studying.
