I am enthusiastic and enjoy what I do. My skills as an educator have been built on 35 years of experience of working with special needs students. I have developed many teaching techniques and learning methods, which enhance a students strengths and works on reducing their poor learning habits. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have helped many students to pass ACT, SAT, ASVAB, and GED. I have taught high school students for over 25 years.

ACT Math

I have taught HS algebra, for over 25 years. I have help tutor students for ACT and SAT over this time.

ADD/ADHD

I have a masters degree in Special Education and have taught Special education students for over 30 years. I have an LBS 1 certificate to teach BD/LD/SED students in Illinois

Algebra 1

I'm skilled in variables and expressions, real numbers, solving linear equations, and polynomial problems, including: factoring, rational expressions, solving linear equations, graphing, square roots and operations with radicals and solving quadratic equations, functions and graphs and solving rational equations, and some trigonometry.

American History

I've taught American History for over 25 years and helped students pass Constitution test. I have worked with many students that have difficulties learning facts and issues of US government and developed many methods to help them.

ASVAB

I have helped many students with taking major tests ie. SAT, ACT, GED, ASVAB. I have taught high school students for over 25 years.

GED

The GED is a very comprehensive test covering a large amount of information in many subjects. So it requires much studying and knowledge to pass it. I have been teaching mostly high school subjects for over 30 years. Working with special needs students required me to teach many subjects and adapt and develop different teaching methods to assist them to pass. This has helped me to find ways to help students learn required information to pass and aids in these kind of tests.

Prealgebra

I had Algebra in both High school and college. I have successfully taught Prealgebra/Algebra over 25 years to both Jr. high and high school Sp. Ed. students. I have use a wide variety of methods and materials to help students pass these subjects.

Reading

I have been working with Special Ed. students with reading difficulties for over 30 years. I have used many different methods and a wide assortment of materials to assist them to improve their reading and comprehension. I attend reading conferences every year to stay current in methods which have proven to be successful.

SAT Math

I've worked with several students to take ACT/SAT and they did very well. I have taught math to jr. high/high school students for over 25 years.

Special Needs

I have been teaching students with LD/Bd/MR for last 30 years. I have taught Sp. Ed. students in all subjects: English Algebra Math, Geometry, History, geography, civics, general/physical sciences, psychology, Spanish, computer tech. I have taught mostly Jr. high and high school age students in public and special schools. I have worked with inner city as well as suburban students.

World History

I took classes in Development of Civilization in college, which covered history of other nations. I've read widely about other nations in Europe, Asia, and South America. I also took anthropology classes about the cultures of Africa and South America.
