In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I taught English during my 30 years as a Sp. Ed. teacher with Jr. high and high school students. Most of them were labeled LD/BD. They required the use of many different materials and methods to help them understand the rules and usage of English language. Much of their instruction was individualized or in small groups. Each student needed to develop their own approach to comprehending how to remember the rules of English. Often it required using a written list to remind them of what steps to follow to help them, which way to approach how to use English rules correctly.
The GED is a very comprehensive test covering a large amount of information in many subjects. So it requires much studying and knowledge to pass it. I have been teaching mostly high school subjects for over 30 years. Working with special needs students required me to teach many subjects and adapt and develop different teaching methods to assist them to pass. This has helped me to find ways to help students learn required information to pass and aids in these kind of tests.
I taught English as a Sp. Ed. teacher for 30 years, to students from 5th grade to high school. I had to use a wide variety of methods to help students understand and write English. Many students had more than one learning or behavior disability, which caused me to create individual lessons for many of these students to assist them with the proper use of English grammar.
