It would be my honor to be your math tutor. I am helpful in setting up study schedules, getting organized for the school year and most importantly, finding the learning style that works for you! For students that struggle with math concepts, I find ways to differentiate instruction to match your learning style. I come to you with teaching, training, and corporate experience. I have worked with students ranging from ages 4 to 65 in one-on-one settings, small group settings, and in classrooms (high school and college level). I have patience, great ideas, and a sense of humor to help create a great learning experience. I have high expectations and give you all the tools to reach those high expectations.

In terms of my teaching experience, I have described the highlights below.

A. I was the Math Department Chair and Algebra I Instructor at UIC College Prep (Chicago, IL) for 4 years.
*During this time, our students earned the highest ACT Math Score for a non-selective charter school in the Chicago area.
*I worked with students with IEP's that struggled with paying attention in class, test-taking, and understanding basic math concepts to help them become successful.
*I earned exceptional ratings from students for helping them develop an understanding of high level math concepts.

B. I was an Adjunct Math Faculty member at EastWest University (Chicago, IL) for over 5 years.
*During this time, I taught different levels of math classes for students who struggle with general math and algebra.

C. I was a Math Lecturer at University of Colorado for 4 years.
*I taught class sizes of 40 to 130 students.
*I also provided additional office hours for assisting students who requested additional help in understanding concepts.

In terms of my corporate experience, I have described the highlights below.

A. I was a Math Textbook Editor and Author at The Association of Christian Schools International (Colorado Springs, CO) for 2 years.
*I edited a seventh grade math textbook that is used in private schools and by home schoolers.
*I authored chapters of the eighth grade math textbook showing the relationship between rational numbers and musical notes.

B. I was a Data Specialist/Software Programmer at Marsh McClennan Companies (Chicago) for 1 year.
*During this time, I worked with high level accounts for data processing needs.

C. I was the Central Dispatch Manager at Airborne Express (Arlington Heights, IL) for over 4 years.
*During this time, I developed the recruiting department from a one person department to a multi-person, multi-site department.
*I also created the first student internship program for the company.

I come to you with a passion for teaching and look forward to hearing from you. - Solly

I have extensive experience tutoring students ranging from ages 4 and up. I have tutored them in reading, science, math, and English. I usually use workbooks given them by their teachers. When this is not given to them, I have them take a free online test to see what level they are at and then, purchase the appropriate workbooks for them. I have patience, experience working with manipulatives, and use humor to make the learning experience enjoyable for students.

I have taught Algebra I for the last four years to a group of students in a low-income, non-selective high school in the city. I taught them using a rigorous curriculum for which I created their guided notes. My first group of students went on to earn the highest ACT math score for a non-selective charter school in the city and 100% of my students were accepted into college! I have patience along with curriculum, teaching, and organizational experience! I can help you build a strong foundation in this course so you are successful in future math classes and tests.

Algebra 2

I completed implementing the Glencoe Common Core Algebra II curriculum at my high school that gave our students the highest math growth and highest score for the south side of Chicago. I had students create and use math interactive notebooks as they learned everything from factoring to graphing higher degree polynomials. I taught all Algebra II concepts by starting with lower level concepts so students can identify higher level problems and then develop strong critical thinking skills to be great problem-solvers.

Builds more than just math skills

Solly was quick to respond & very accommodating. Personal reasons didn't allow me to respond back to her right away. I finally responded quite late on a Sat night. I asked if she could meet my daughter sometime on Sunday (less than 24 hours!). She replied soon after & was able to meet my daughter Sunday afternoon! Solly is patient & was able to help my daughter understand things in a more clear way. Solly also helped my daughter to see that she knew more than she realized. What was lacking was trust in own abilities. I was happy to see my daughter smiling after her lesson instead of the usual frustration with math. All this in just the first one-hour session! Thank you Solly! Looking forward to you working with my daughter soon!

She's great

My son's algebra grade has risen steadily since Solly started tutoring him. She is flexible with dates just in case his quizzes and tests get rescheduled. He's very happy with her help.
