My son's algebra grade has risen steadily since Solly started tutoring him. She is flexible with dates just in case his quizzes and tests get rescheduled. He's very happy with her help.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have experience working with students that struggle with test anxiety when taking the ACT test. I work with students to see where they struggle when it comes to the Math portion of the ACT and then practice to overcome these struggles. My math students in an inner city charter school in Chicago went on to score the highest math score for a non-selective school in the city!
I have taught Algebra I for the last four years to a group of students in a low-income, non-selective high school in the city. I taught them using a rigorous curriculum for which I created their guided notes. My first group of students went on to earn the highest ACT math score for a non-selective charter school in the city and 100% of my students were accepted into college! I have patience along with curriculum, teaching, and organizational experience! I can help you build a strong foundation in this course so you are successful in future math classes and tests.
I completed implementing the Glencoe Common Core Algebra II curriculum at my high school that gave our students the highest math growth and highest score for the south side of Chicago. I had students create and use math interactive notebooks as they learned everything from factoring to graphing higher degree polynomials. I taught all Algebra II concepts by starting with lower level concepts so students can identify higher level problems and then develop strong critical thinking skills to be great problem-solvers.
I have extensive experience tutoring students ranging from ages 4 and up. I have tutored them in reading, science, math, and English. I usually use workbooks given them by their teachers. When this is not given to them, I have them take a free online test to see what level they are at and then, purchase the appropriate workbooks for them. I have patience, experience working with manipulatives, and use humor to make the learning experience enjoyable for students.
Have experience teaching, tutoring and writing textbooks in this subject area. It is foundational for success in all future math classes. I work hard to build this foundation. I have lots of resources and can show students different ways to solve problems to find the method that works best for their understanding.
