I have been in education for over 25 years, with the last 14 years devoted to Gifted Education. I have a B.S. degree from NIU, a M. ED. from National Louis University, a concentration of Math and Science in undergraduate studies, and graduate hours in Gifted Education. I've only tutored one student privately many years ago. I started working with him in third/fourth grade, and continued until he started high school. I established a terrific rapport with him and his family, and was pleased with his success. I am an avid reader, and have taught Shakespeare to middle school students. Math doesn't scare me, and I try to make math enjoyable. We can conquer it together!

Patricia M is an excellent teacher. She is well prepared and knows how to relate with children. She is very patient and my daughter looks forward to her lessons with Pat. We have recommended her to many friends and they have also found her to be an effective tutor. I would highly recommend Pat to any child!
Patricia is an excellent teacher with different strategies to help my daughter better understand the skills she is learning. She is very patient.
Patricia focuses on my daughters needs and helps her getting the most out of each tutoring session.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My 25+ year teaching experience has been mainly focused in the elementary grades, with the last fourteen years teaching gifted education. The span of content areas in the elementary grades interest me, and I have a vast experience bank to tap into. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with young children, and enjoy enriching their exposure to new topics. I also can use this experience to help students struggling with certain areas by reteaching the concept in a different manner to achieve mastery.
I am an experienced elementary teacher who taught third grade. In the public schools this is generally when cursive writing is taught, or used to be taught. I also am a product of a Catholic Education, and the nuns stressed beautiful penmanship! I consider my personal penmanship exemplary and receive compliments. I also have taken calligraphy classes and can teach a basic italic hand. It distresses me that cursive is not included in elementary curriculum, and basic printing is unreadable. I can help parents who want their children to learn proper penmanship in a matter of 4 lessons.
I have experience teaching primary grades and the element of phonics continues to play an important role in mastering reading. Learning consonant sounds and letter recognition is essential. Vowel sounds and their inconsistent rules have to be taught to gain an insight into complicated English grammar. Verbal assessment is needed.
I have extensive experience in teaching math and worked with gifted children up to 8th grade in my last district position.
I have experience teaching reading grades 1-8. Specifically I have tutored several primary students in remedial reading and can use several strategies to improve their skills.
