I love kids, and I love to teach. I spent 15 years as a professional reporter and can communicate well with all types of people. I taught at Columbia College and tutored many friends when I was in college. I earned a BA in Communications and BS in Computer Science. I believe in making learning fun for the student. I believe teachers need to be patient and create a positive environment to build self-confidence.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have four years experience offering private tutoring to elementary school children. I have had great success in getting my students to become more excited about reading and learning in general. I offer patience and praise but also require them to work to earn that praise, and they feel a greater sense of accomplishment because of it. I go to extensive efforts to get to know the students to find out their interests and choose books for them that they will like. I offer reward programs for achieving goals and most of all make the learning process fun.
