I taught myself English back in the early '80s in Beijing, China. When I came to America as a college student in 1988, nobody believed that I was not born and raised in America. This tells you that I know how to study a foreign language on my own. My language skill helped me to finish college and an MBA with honors in America and got me good jobs in corporate America.
I used to teach English in China, I have been teaching Chinese at my church, and I tutor Chinese for high school and college students in the north shore area. I LOVE teaching Chinese to American students, as I see this is the way that I can give back to this great country I love!
I was born and raised in Beijing, and I have been in America for 25 years; therefore, I speak both Chinese and English fluently. My teaching philosophy is to learn a language while having fun with it. I use hands-on, practical, daily activities and real situations to facilitate learning, so that student can actually use the language on a daily basis. Speaking, reading and writing are intertwined so that these skills are developed accordingly.

This was my daughter's 3rd lesson with Christina and it just keeps getting better! My daughter had some negative experiences taking Mandarin in group classes in the past and now she loves it and is having fun learning! After Christina left, my daughter took me up to the area they were working and I saw some of their work on a white board in my daughter's room. After a few minutes, my daughter had me doing some "warm-up" moves and speaking words in Mandarin like up, down, left, right, front, back, etc. Very positive for all of us.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was born and raised in Beijing, China, so I am fluent in Mandarin. I was working as an interpreter in Beijing for three years before I came to America for college 24 years ago. I took the TOEFL exam before I came to America in 1988. I obtained my college degree in Accounting in 1992 and my MBA in Finance in 1994. I have been teaching Chinese at my church for 3 years and I have been very active in the American and Chinese Business Association by doing interpreting for many high profile events. I also volunteer teach Chinese to high school students. I love to teach Chinese to students. My teaching style is fun learning, hands on, and practical. My students LOVE to learn Chinese from me.
English is my favorite subject through out my student life and I have been tutoring English to many students who are grade school students, high school students, foreign students who are candidates for their master and Ph.D degrees.
I enjoy teaching English for whatever the student's needs are.
I love literature since I was in the middle school, and I have read all the famous authors' books from all over the world. I feel passionate to share a good novel with others, and better yet, to guide students how to read a good novel, how to interpret it for their school assignments. I also belong to a reading club where I lead the discussions.
Reading is my favorite thing I love to do on any given day. I enjoy the variety of reading materials for a fun learning experience.
Teaching kids how to read for school and for fun is the best way for them to learn the knowledge with passion and to do well in school.
I took TOEFL exam in 1988 and passed it with high score, which enabled me to attend college in the United States. I have been tutoring foreign students on how to prepare TOEFL exam. I also passed the TOEFL tutoring Exam with 100%.
I am very confident and experienced to teach anyone with any level of English to pass TOEFL exam.
I love writing and enjoy teaching others how to write, especially for children who have started writing or who want to improve their writing.
