I am an intuitive listener and attempt to evaluate the learning style of each person with whom I work. Once I am clear about learning style, I can formulate comments and questions in ways in which they can more readily understand. I use an affirming style, but also ask the difficult and uncomfortable questions so that the individuals has a somewhat objective view of themselves, i.e., how others might perceive them.
I have helped individuals and firms identify their KPI's [key performance indicators - what it is they want to measure], and then recommended a combination of them to bring relevant information to the feedback discussion. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
