About Sandra

My area of expertise is in math. I graduated from Benedictine University cum laude with a bachelor of science for both math and chemistry. I am in the mathematics honors society Kappa Mu Epsilon. I was awarded the 2013 undergraduate award in inorganic chemistry from the American Chemical Society. I tutored math at a community college up to differential equations as a student tutor. I also privately tutored a student in general chemistry. I also was a teaching assistant for the lab portion of organic chemistry and for real analysis in Benedictine University. I currently tutor math and chemistry at another community college as a professional tutor.
I love tutoring because I love to make math accessible to everyone. I believe that anyone can learn math as long as the student is willing to put in the work and the tutor is patient.

I have a B.S. in Mathematics. I can tutor prealgebra, algebra, trigonometry, college algebra, precalculus, calculus, and ACT Math.

Please send me a request for more information. I am available for a free face to face consultation.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics, graduated cum laude, and I am in the mathematics honors society Kappa Mu Epsilon. I have experience tutoring the subjects in the ACT exam at community colleges. I have tutored ACT Math for a couple of months at a learning center.

Algebra 1

I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics, graduated cum laude, and I am in the mathematics honors society Kappa Mu Epsilon. I have been tutoring this subject in community college for about two years.

Algebra 2

I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics, graduated cum laude, and I am in the mathematics honors society Kappa Mu Epsilon. I have been tutoring this subject in community college for about three years. While tutoring Algebra 2, I am able to describe the significance of a particular topic and relate it to real world applications such as the sciences, engineering, and business. I also point out when certain techniques will carry over to higher level math.

Calculus

I have been tutoring this subject in community college for about three years. I usually have a full table of Calculus students while tutoring at the community college. While tutoring Calculus, I am able to describe the significance of a particular topic and relate it to real world applications such as the sciences, engineering, and business. I also point out when certain techniques will carry over to higher level math such as Differential Equations.

Precalculus

I have been tutoring this subject in community college for about three years. While tutoring Precalculus, I use a step-by-step approach for the transformation sections in order to make learning that section easier. I am able to make the Trigonometry portion of the subject less stressful. I also point out when certain techniques will carry over to higher level math.

Trigonometry

I have been tutoring Trigonometry in community college for about three years. While tutoring Trigonometry, I use the unit circle approach and I have a neat trick that makes memorizing the unit circle less overwhelming. I also point out when certain techniques will carry over to higher level math.
