Hi my name is Kimber and I began tutoring in High school, as a part of the National Honor's Society, where I obtained my certification through the National Tutoring Association of America. I really enjoy working with kids and helping them learn especially in subjects that I am passionate about, science and math. In order to achieve this I explain the concepts the material covers and then ask questions to test the students understanding and help them answer questions on homework assignments. For some subjects, like math, I will create problems that enforce the concept learned to walk through as examples and practice problems.
I graduated in December of 2011 with a BA in pre-med biology and will graduate in August of 2012 with a MA in bioethics. I plan on going to medical school in the fall of 2013 and am currently studying for my MCATS which will help me stay on top of science concepts to help other students. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I started my studies of algebra in 8th grade and continued them in high school. My freshman year I took an algebra 2 class which started me on the path to calculus 2. I feel that understanding the basics in math is necessary for success.
I took anatomy both in college and in medical school with A's in both classes. In college I also was an anatomy lab aide after I passed the course and was able to help other students learn about the human body. In medical school I received a perfect score on both the written and lab portion on one of the exams which was the first time that occurred for my professor.
I have a college degree in biology and graduated in summa cum laude. I took the following biology courses: anatomy and physiology, general biology, plant and animal kingdom, cell and molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, and developmental biology.
In elementary school I was in an advanced math program because I was doing math at a higher level than most students in my grade. However, I still find all levels of math fun and enjoyable.
I have always loved science and now have a degree in biology. About once a month in elementary school, we would have a discovery science teacher come into my classes and I would always volunteer to assist her when she asked for assistants.
I took a class in genetics in college and passed with an A. A lot of information in this class was reviewed/reinforced in a cell and molecular biology class I also took and received an A in. I have a BA in pre-med biology and an MA in bioethics. Currently I am in medical school and in my med school genetics class I was able to expand my knowledge of genetics even more.
I started taking golf lessons as a kid then when I got to high school I was on the golf team and played on Varsity for 2 years.
I took a microbiology course my senior year of college in which I received an A. As part of this class I had to identify 2 different unknowns one of which had 2 organisms in it. In medical school I learned a lot more about microorganisms including how to identify them based on a description of its properties or the signs and symptoms of the disease it causes. Currently, I have a BA in pre-med biology and an MA in bioethics and am working on my MD.
In December of 2011 I graduated from Trinity International University with a BA in Biology/pre-med. As such I was required to take and Anatomy and Physiology in which I received an A. My teacher than asked me to be a TA for the class where I helped quiz students on the different body systems and how they work. One example is the pathway of blood from the heart through the body and back to the heart again while naming the heart chamber and the major blood vessels as well as the electrical conduction of the heart. As a pre-med student, I really love science especially anatomy and physiology and continue review how the body works to keep the knowledge fresh in my head.
I have taken many standardized tests, graduated high school and college, and currently am preparing for the MCAT and finishing a master's degree. I have as a result developed very successful study skills. This includes reading material and then summarizing what I read and testing myself. I also make use of flashcards.
I started working at the Wheeling Park District as a lifeguard and swim instructor in 2005. Since then I have aided many students in learning how to swim and to refine strokes. Then in 2008 I became an aquatic manager and now run swim lessons in addition to teaching. This requires my training the swim instructors to make sure they are well equipped to teach students.
