About Oliver

I have been teaching internet technologies for over 20 years. I have a B.Sc. in computer Science which I received in 1990. My interest is in motivating students to love learning and to become lifelong learners. I combine the arts in teaching technology such as computer programming, web design, mathematics, and statistics. I have pursued lifelong learning myself with a Masters in Adult Education and a Ph.D. in Education. I am still learning new languages as a lifelong learner and produce literature to revitalize indigenous languages.

I have extensive experience in computer software and hardware engineering. I designed and programmed operating systems, game systems, and a multitude of applications. I have taught game design, Autocad, 2-D and 3-D animation and practically every computer course offered at the college level.

Please feel free to contact me with your specific requirements and I will respond and share my expertise or experience in your area of interest.

I have developed an 8-week curricula that covers the major aspects of technology proficiency and a technology proficiency rating system to measure the progress in learner development progress.

I also embed my science teaching with ethical values so that learners are empowered to not only change the world but to do so with due consideration of possible consequences.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Flash

I have a B.Sc. in computer Science in 1990, developed Flash since Flash 5, and taught Flash to summer school to grade schoolers, and Bachelor's students in Design.
I also am proficient in Actionscript as a current designer of web apps.

American History

I have a Ph.D. in Education and have developed courses to enhance the teaching of history in class and online. I have studied world history, ancient history, South African history and American history.

I have published a book on the parallel history of the United States and South Africa, teach a course comparing the Civil Rights Movement with the Anti-Apartheid struggle, and hold workshops on community organizing and changing society because ordinary people create the history of the world even though the scientists, experts and pundits record it. I participated in changing the world as a strategic community organizer in the campaign that led to the freeing of Nelson Mandela and the demise of the Apartheid system.

For the last thirty years I have been providing workshops and actively analyzed current American History from the Iraq war to the current ISIS concerns.

I have a B.Sc. in CS. I am a software Engineer using C and C++ to design systems and teach students programming. I co-Authored a book on Turbo C++ 4.5.

I have been playing chess since I was 8 years old at the club and championship level. I played in high school chess tournaments, won FIDE membership and a subscription to the Chess Federation magazine. Taught all my children and still encourage chess as a mental challenging game. I developed a computer game that automatically documents every move and can replay any game that has been documented.

Computer Programming

I have taught computer programming since 1996 with a background of being a business software programmer-analyst and a software engineer in programming Switching Networks. The languages that I have used in my programming career include COBOL, RPGII, SQL, C, C++, JAVA, Perl, HTML, Basic, Pascal, and FORTRAN and have created custom operating systems and programming languages.
I have taught C and subroutines as well as C++ and objects. Many script languages are based on C. I also teach Windows and Unix so am very familiar with programming for multiple platforms.

Computer Science

I have a B.Sc. in Computer Science in 1990. I worked for 10 years at Tellabs as a Senior Member of Technical Staff designing cross connect live updates and trouble shooting modification requests.
I also consulted since 1994 DBA PC Doctor.
I taught computer science at the college level since 1996 including Java, HTML, and C++ Programming, Animation, and Game Team Collaboration.
at College of DuPage, Benedictine University, and Elmhurst College.
I have a Ph.D. in education with research and development in technology in education.

I have always been interested in world history and geography and with a Ph.D. in education have created coursework to enhance the teaching of geography through using maps and comparing continents.
Many countries can fit in the African continent giving people a better perspective of its value in the center of the world. Also the comparison between the Mercator and Peters Projections of World Maps provide an alternative perspective to the globe.
Geography is a scientific field that actually affects human ideas, policies, and laws in a real and meaningful way in every city of the world.
The realization of saving the planet is based on global warming, melting polar ice, and Oceans rising which is changing the topography of a changing world. Understanding geography teaches much more than topography because studying geography leads to understanding storms and earthquakes.

I teach Linux programming and advanced Linux currently and have done so for the last 7 years. I have a B.Sc. in Computer Science and worked for 10 years as a software engineer using C/C++ programming and UNIX. I have served as a UNIX administrator and teach UNIX system administration.

Microsoft Access

I have used Microsoft Access since its first version. I have also taught Access and SQL since it was packaged with DOS. I still teach and use Access on a regular basis and have always updated to the latest version available.

Since I have a software programming background I can teach the SQL component of Access. As a regular user of Access I am familiar with all its powerful features available. As a user of Word and Excel I can compare the powerful database features of Access to the equivalent features in Word and Excel that most users may be familiar with.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have used presentation software that preceded PowerPoint and have used PowerPoint since its first release. I kept up with all version updates and have gained considerable experience in providing presentations.
I have taught PowerPoint for over 20 years in corporate and college settings and use it daily to teach.
I have also developed a course titled Power PowerPoint aimed at educators who are proficient with using PowerPoint but would like to utilise advanced and enhanced features available in PowerPoint.

Microsoft Windows

I have used Windows since its inception with Windows 1.0 and taught windows alongside teaching introduction to computers and DOS. I have used and taught every Windows version.

I am still teaching Windows 7 using Windows 8 and upgrading to Windows 10. My teaching includes A+ certification in Hardware and software. I also teach Advanced System Administration with Directory Services using Windows 2012.

Microsoft Word

I have used Microsoft Word since its first verion and have used every version since. I taught Microsoft Word and still teach Word 2010 even though I also upgraded to Word 2013.
I designed courses and online animation material that showed the differences between Word 2003 and Word 2007.

I also teach advanced Word for those who are already proficient but would like to learn the lesser known and more powerful features of word such as Mailmerge and sharing edits.

I am also chairing and leading Ph.D. dissertation committees where multiple editors routinely offer their feedback in one dissertation document online.

I have a Ph.D. in Education and have served as chair of over 20 Ph.D. candidates. In this role I help them develop dissertation proposals that include a range of research methodologies and advise and support them through their dissertation defense.
I am constantly reviewing dissertations on the latest research in the fields of Education, Technology and Business.

World History

I have always been interested in the world and its history. I have a Ph.D. in Education and have developed a number of courses in studying and modernizing the the study of history.

I have also studied human history that spans millions of years through archaeological clues and through studying indigenous language that contains many similar stories in very diverse societies.

The modern world history spans only the last 3 to
4 thousand years but the ancient world history spans the development of humans, and the birth of the solar system over 13 billion years ago.

I published a book on the Parallel History of South Africa and the United States. I also provide a course on the sixties to show how the recent world history have similar events and also offered parallel leadership on different continents.
