I have been a RN for almost 30 years, specializing in critical care/advanced medical surgical nursing and pharmacology. I work full-time at an ADN program and adjunct for a BSN program. I am currently working on my PhD in Nursing Education. I love to teach! I make it fun and interesting, but also challenging, because I believe that the key skills needed for successful entry into nursing practice (and passing the licensure examination) are clinical reasoning, sound decision-making, and expert problem-solving.
My tutoring approach is highly individualized. I try to get to know each student's personality, learning style, past learning experiences, and academic performance, especially in regards to high-stakes testing such as the NCLEX. I am very familiar with ATI, KAPLAN, HESI, and the NCSBN Learningext. I always start with a FREE phone consultation to learn about your particular situation and if we would be a good fit.
I have a unique approach to helping students prepare to retake the NCLEX that I found to work very well. My goal is to 'demystify' the NCLEX and help students understand the way NCLEX items are designed and help them with critical thinking, applying their knowledge, and test taking strategies. I keep current with the NCLEX-RN test plan and item development and attended the NCSBN NCLEX16 conference in Philadelphia on 9.12.2016.
I expect my students to communicate professionally at all times, to be on-time for lessons and complete homework or prep assignments in a thorough and complete manner.
If you decide to contact me, please include as much details as you can. Tell me if this is your 1st NCLEX attempt or # of repeat. Tell me about your academic background (school, GPA, nursing courses you had to repeat, accommodations rec'd and so on) and what other preparation resources you have tried so far. The more information you provide, the better I can develop an initial needs assessment. It's sort of like the nursing process ;-)

I was one of the people that had immense difficulty with tests. Due to personal problems, I had failed the NCLEX exam three times working on my own. I knew I was a borderline student because I had gotten the whole 265 every attempt. I had extreme frustration towards all of it and I was beginning to wonder if I would ever pass this test. I had tried other companies and, while they did help, it still wasn't enough. Under the recommendation of my mother, she found Professor Nadja J. on Wyzant. I thought about it and decided to give it a try!
She is honest, dedicated, kind, and tough on the teaching, but it was all worth it. If you really think about it, she is like a coach. She will give a tough love approach to you, and will provide lots of encouragement & motivation. She will ask for some information about you, wondering what your weaknesses are in content areas or critical thinking skills, and then she will formulate a plan to help you out! She develops her own unique plan specified for you and she's great with it!
However, you have to put in the effort as well and tell yourself how much you want to be a nurse, regardless of your lifestyle. If you are dishonest, don't write notes, not study, get careless, or do your weekly questions, you are only hurting yourself and just setting yourself up for failure.
I would be working, be up late reading notes after work, waking up early to take some practice tests, reading the textbook, meeting with her weekly, and studying over a few hundred questions a week. She provided lots of great advice, ways to tackle questions differently, being sure of yourself, not doubting the answer, and finding out why this answer seems correct. I always kept my eye on the prize.
I finally passed the NCLEX exam after 169 questions, and it was the greatest feeling I have had in such a long time. I still check the quick results to make sure I'm not dreaming and I cannot wait to finally start working in a hospital! Thank you Professor Nadja J. for all of your help! This review alone is not enough to describe how grateful I am for all of this! I wish you the best of luck to your other students! It feels amazing to be able to call myself a nurse now!
Dear Shankar, thank you for taking the time to write such a supportive review. It was a great pleasure working with you and I am so proud of you and your determination and perseverance. Best wishes as you start your career as a RN!!!
Today I met with Nadja for the first time and we came up with a study plan as well as a strategy that I could use for NCLEX styled questions. Nadja was very knowledgeable and I could tell she is extremely educated and committed to her students. She knows a lot about the exam and how to approach the questions. She seemed very dedicated to the nursing profession and her attitude toward the NCLEX and confidence in me to do well was very comforting and helped me build confidence in my abilities.
Nadja is very passionate about what she does! She has a lot of experience not only at the bedside, but as a teacher as well. She encouraged me when I needed it and pushed me to my full potential, which wasn't always easy for me. Before I met Nadja I had attempted NCLEX 3 times, doing various different study methods. I just need her push and enthusiasm to get me through my 4th and final attempt! I can't thank her enough for everything she has done.
Thank you for your kind words. I enjoyed working with you and wish you much success in your career as a nurse!
Ms. J was an excellent tutor! She takes the time to find out where your strength and weaknesses are and gears her tutoring specifically towards YOUR needs and goals. I was reffered to her by a friend and was so happy with my results I passed the NCLEX my first try all from her helping and guiding me. She not only helped me with feeling comfortable with the material but she also helped me build my confidence. As long as you do exactlly what she tells you and put your all into your tutoring sessions you will not be dissapointed with your results. I plan to continue to keep in touch with her and look up to her for guidance and mentoring. Thank you Ms. J!!!
Thank you Sarah for your kind review. It was a pleasure working with you.
I loved working with Professor Nadja J. She is a great tutor, great teacher, and a great person. She is very organized in everything she does. She makes personalized study plans and prepares you for NCLEX success. She addressed my weak areas and instructed me on how to answer NCLEX questions. Professor J is always available to her students and very approachable. She is the reason I passed NCLEX on the first try. She knew what I needed in order to pass this exam. I needed her more than she would ever know and I am extremely happy I had the opportunity to work with her.
Thank you Aggie for your kind words. I know that sometimes I had more faith in you than you did in yourself, but I knew you could do this!! I am so proud of you and am certain that you will be a wonderful nurse.
After failing the nclex twice, I reached out to professor James for some help. She is an amazing tutor and has helped me so much. Following her guidance and schedule for studying, I passed the nclex! I couldn't thank her enough and her approach to the nclex is just what I needed!
Thank you Morgan for your kind feedback. You are the one who did all of the hard work- welcome to the profession!!
Professor J. is a great teacher. After failing multiple times on my own, Professor J got me to finally pass the NCLEX exam. She is very good at explaining concepts. Also, she is very organized and gives you a study plan to success. She is very good at understanding what you need to work on to pass the exam. She makes customized exams so you improve on exactly what you need.
Thank you Nisha for your positive feedback. It was you who did all of the hard work and trusted me and followed my approach, even when it meant significant sacrifices on your part. Welcome to the profession!
Professor J. is a great, knowledgeable tutor. She is really organized and helped me with great study plan that I am implementing to help me pass my HESI and NCLEX exams. I am looking forward to our next session!!!
Working with Professor J. was the key to my success with NCLEX. I failed two times and reached out for help for attempt #3. Simply put, Professor J. is absolutely incredible. She gathers information about you as a person and as a student, so she can tailor tutoring for you. She carefully analyzes your previous CPR report(s) (if you've attempted NCLEX more than once) and really gets a feel for how to help you be most successful on NCLEX.
Professor J. focuses on both your strengths and weaknesses and will do whatever is necessary for you to truly understand any concept you may be struggling with. Professor J. is extremely organized, very flexible, patient, and promptly responds to emails. Professor J. utilizes several different resources so you don't get bored with the content or the particular style of questions written by a particular source-- which I found very helpful and refreshing.
Professor James is tough, makes you work very hard, but prepares you exceptionally well for NCLEX. You eat, sleep, and breathe NCLEX during your time spent with her, but there is no better feeling in the world seeing all that hard work pay off!! Professor J. truly approaches each student individually and does the best she can to give you the best tutoring experience for your needs. She provides an excellent source of encouragement and is your biggest cheerleader, but will give you tough love if you need to hear it. (Trust me--listen to her tough love too!)
If you work with Professor J., you will feel confident, prepared, and proud when you walk in to NCLEX because she gave you the resources and the guidance you need to be ready and to be successful on NCLEX. I passed with 76 questions. I would highly recommend her regardless of how many times you've attempted NCLEX. Professor J. is amazing!
Thank you Jaclyn for the kind feedback. Tutoring is a 2-way street for me and it's been my pleasure to have worked with you. You were a terrific student - always on time, committed and positive and did all of the hard work and I am so happy to welcome you to the nursing profession!
Professor James is incredibly knowledgeable and extremely helpful when preparing for the NCLEX. She is very approachable and does not make you feel less competent for not knowing the answer to any questions. She thoroughly explains each question and makes sure you understand a concept before you move on to the next one. She also makes each appointment individualized and makes practice tests containing material about specific areas you are struggling in. The fact that she is a professor is very beneficial for any students looking for a tutor for the first time. She has many practice tests/materials that many other tutors do not have. She provides an enormous amount of practice questions prior the next time you will be taking the exam. She is always available and responds to any questions within 24 hours. I strongly recommend this tutor for anyone, and can confidently say she is the reason I passed the NCLEX on the second try.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I work full-time as a nursing professor and have experience with NCLEX-style question development. I keep current with the latest NCLEX-RN test plan & possess a great number of resources for NCLEX -RN exam prep. **Please note: I am not an expert with the PN (LPN) examination. There are differences between these 2 exams and I do not feel qualified to tutor for the PN/LPN one.
