I am a bachelor's prepared nurse, a kindergarten teacher assistant, an avid writer, editor, and spoken word poet. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and have extensively studied literature and English. While I am very active in the improvement of writing technique, I am also very interested in medicine and the sciences. I have worked as a research assistant in exercise, technology, and cognition labs. I have also received an accelerated Bachelor's degree in Nursing. I look forward to addressing your learning concerns related to nursing courses. I have experience in many different subjects and learning styles.

I really believe in metacognition (learning about the way you learn). I have found that I personally focus best when I am able to listen (auditory learning) and take notes (kinesthetic component), removing any visual stimuli that may confuse me or result in me daydreaming. I think that this should be understood by both the student and the tutor. This way time is never wasted and learning takes an individualized approach.

I have studied many forms of composition from narrative writing to literature to poetry. I am more than qualified to explain content, instruct on writing techniques, and edit papers for grammar and content. I have read and investigated the works of Shakespeare, W.B. Yeats, and many early modern women writers. I specialize in British Literature 1900-1930, romantic narratives, and late renaissance poetry.

My nursing knowledge includes foundational nursing, nutrition, medical-surgical, pathophysiology, ethics, research, mental health, pediatrics, obstetrics, older adult, and leadership/management. Nursing is all about finding the answer that is most right amongst answers that are all right. I will help you determine what is the priority action.

In the past I worked as a Kindergarten Teacher Assistant at Lincoln Elementary School, where I gained experience tutoring children from K-5th grade. Working in a school system gave me access to children of many different ages that have different learning styles (including children with cerebral palsy). In addition to this, I have gained experience tutoring students and editing writing from students in high-school, 4-year college, and adults in 2-year college.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about me or would like to schedule a lesson. Thank you for your time.

Proofreading

I majored in Creative Writing so I have always spent a lot of time editing the writing of others. 1/3 of Creative Writing is improving your own writing, but another third of it is editing the writing of others (the other 1/3 is the investigation of the works of published writers). I have a lot of experience with proofreading for grammar and also revising content. I also excelled in a college-level Rhetoric class at the University of Illinois.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

My son enjoyed his first lesson. She was very patient with him, and next we will figure out his learning style something that we have never engaged in. I’m impressed that she is concerned to help us figure this out. Will use her for more lessons!
