I have taught high school math for over 30 years and I am certified to teach math in grades 6 - 12. The classes that I have taught include, General Math, Introduction to Algebra, Geometry, Topics in Algebra 2, and Algebra II/Trigonometry. I have also taught some math classes at the college level. Those courses included College Algebra and Business Math.
While teaching I have worked with a variety of students. I find it is important to help students understand not only the mathematics but how they learn math. Not everyone learns in the same way. I can provide differentiated instruction to accommodate different learning styles, examples would include using technology and visual aids. I also emphasize reading and writing in mathematics. I have tutored many students who struggle with math and these methods can help to clarify topics. During my time teaching high school I have worked with several co-teachers to provide accommodations to special education students. I have learned a great deal about how students learn from working with them.
The best part about tutoring is tailoring what I do to meet the needs of a student. Not only do I want to help students who struggle but I want to help them excel. It is wonderful to see students accomplish their goals and gain confidence for future endeavors. I truly enjoy math and helping people to understand the subject.
I would like to give you a little background information about me. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education at Illinois State University and my Master of Science in Education with emphasis in Computer Science at Northern Illinois University. To stay current in the field of mathematics education I attend meetings at the DuPage Valley Mathematics Conference, the Illinois Council of Mathematics Conference, and the National Council of Mathematics Conference.

Yvonne is very experienced, knowlegeable, patient and enthusiastic with the job, she is helping my nephew with 7th grade math , he just moved here from out of country. He found her lessons was interesting and helpful . Highly recommended.
I needed a tutor to help my son study for the geometry placement test as a prerequisite for College Algebra. Yvonne was very responsive to his needs and came very prepared with the study guide from the school I highly recommend her and will use her again if needed. The best part, my son past his test! Thank you Yvonne, for your patience and expertise
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with high school students for over 15 years. During class, we always took the time to prepare for this important test. While an understanding of the material is key, there are other things to be aware of when taking a multiple choice. I am familiar with all of the topics covered in the ACT test.
I have taught Algebra 1 for over 15 years. I understand the areas that students struggle with. I am able to provide alternate ways to approach these difficult concepts.
I have taught Algebra 2 for over 25 years. When tutoring I will first make sure that a student has mastered the concepts from Algebra 1. Without these students can not perform well on the problems in Algebra 2. I also work with reading skills and vocabulary. Both of these are necessary for success in mathematics. In Algebra 2, the level of difficulty increases in the types of word problems that are covered. I show students how to break down the problems into more manageable parts and show them how to draw diagrams to help clarify the problem.
I have taught Geometry for over 15 years. I can tutor students on how to structure proofs. I can also instruct them on how to draw diagrams to clarify complex problems. There are many formulas in geometry that can be categorized to help students understand when to use them.
I have taught Prealgebra and it is very important for students to master these concepts. These skills are necessary for students to be successful in future math courses. When I tutor these concepts I make sure students understand and do not just memorize procedures.
Trigonometry is useful in solving real-life applications and the skills learned are necessary to study higher levels of math like calculus. I have taught Algebra 2/trigonometry for over 15 years.
One way I can help a student is to use pictures and diagrams to clarify concepts and break down problems into smaller tasks. I can also help students remember and understand topics by teaching reading skills for the application problems.
