About Amy

I am a recent graduate of the Masters program for ESL for Higher Education (University level) at the University of Minnesota. While in graduate school I taught a number of classes to both undergraduate and graduate international students including Oral Skills, test prep, and English pronunciation. I also worked at the University Center for Writing as a writing consultant for 2 years. In this position I supported over 400 students from every level, freshman to post doc, in writing and editing their projects. Collaborative writing is something I'm very passionate about; whether it's starting from scratch and brainstorming how to sequence ideas and find resources or it's proofreading a finished draft and discussing flow, citations, rhetorical choices, or grammar, I truly enjoy every aspect of the process of writing.

Due to the variety of assignments I helped students with during my time working for Student Writing Services, I am familiar with APA, MLA, and have some experience with ACS (American Chemical Society) citation styles. I can also help students to find and become familiar with different writing resources.

Beyond helping students, I have worked with a number of scientific and financial professionals to edit research articles, presentations, posters, and conference talks.

Working one on one to achieve English or writing goals is very meaningful and fun for me; I hope with my help it can be fun for you too.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I worked at Berlitz Language School in Colombia teaching English as a foreign language. I have many texts to use in helping students master English including those of Berlitz.
