Hi there! I am currently a substitute teacher and aide for Deaf Children with special needs, and I love it. I am passionate about ASL and Deaf Culture, and am currently pursuing ASL Interpreter Certification. I would love to help others get their bearings in ASL and develop a passion for the language and culture.
I've also been a student of ballet, lyrical (now called contemporary), and jazz for nearly 20 years. Outside of academic pursuits, it is one of the great loves of my life. I taught for an old company that I danced for, as well as being a 1:1 Ballet Aide for a very physically challenged young girl. This is also something I would really enjoy helping to develop a love for in others that are interested.
I have always been great with English, grammar, and proofreading (I was always the one to proof the papers of my friends in high school and well into college).
I also maintained a high level of interest and knowledge in science, specifically biology and zoology, throughout school.
I am quite organized, patient, and creative. I am more than willing to work with your needs and preferences, and what works best for your learning pace or techniques. As with my job, I am comfortable with children, and also have experience working with adults.
If you or your child are in need of tutoring in any of these subjects, please do make an appointment. I look forward to hearing from you! Hi there! I am open to rate flexibility depending upon the subject, level, & lesson length.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was diagnosed with a mild case ADHD when I was 6, and have been on Ritalin since then. I have studied my diagnosis thoroughly throughout my life. In addition, I work with behaviorally disordered children with extreme cases of ADHD.
I began studying ballet at the age of 5, and continue taking classes to this day. I have been part of multiple competitive teams (Starlite Dancers, Midwest Dance Authority) and performance companies (Ula Rivers, Tanja Pazou). I spent several years studying under Avnun Yakubov and I loved it. Having taught classes to multiple age levels (age 3-adult), as well as tutoring peers in college, I am quite comfortable in front of either a group, or individual. I spent time as a 1:1 Ballet Aide for a young girl with severe physical limitations and special needs.
I have been studying American Sign Language and Deaf culture for 6 years. I work with mostly Deaf/hard of hearing staff and children. I am currently enrolled in the Interpreter Certification Program at Harper College.
I have been studying American Sign Language and Deaf culture for 9 years. I have worked with mostly Deaf/hard of hearing staff and children for the past 5 years. I have completed a local Interpreter Training Program and am currently awaiting Licensure Test results (5-6 month waiting period).
I have previously worked as a 1:1 Ballet Aide for a young girl with severe physical limitations as well as special needs. The children that I work with are extremely behaviorally disordered, with multiple diagnoses, in addition to their Deafness. These diagnoses range from autism, to severe ADHD, to OCD, to bipolar disorder, and many others in between. I have been at my job as a 1:1 Aide for special needs Deaf children for one year.
