About Kelli

Teaching, tutoring, and training have been major parts of my life for 15 years. Currently, I teach 5th through 8th grade English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Additionally, I tutor students with autism individually and in small groups focusing on reading comprehension, mathematics, and learning behaviors. In previous years, I taught all grades K-8 and tutored both high school and college students.

I enjoy implementing technology and using real-world curriculum in my teaching and tutoring experiences. All of my curriculum is individualized and have the option of integrated laptops and iPads for student use. My students email me regularly to ask questions, tell me how they made connections to real life, and simply check in. This is my favorite part of tutoring!

I have a Master of Science in Education and teaching license in special education and endorsements in middle school content areas. Math is my favorite subject for which I am considered highly qualified by the state. In my current practice, I blend real-world mathematics with basic and advanced skills utilizing multiple modalities as well as technology. Each year, my math students show marked improvements on state-wide assessments and district assessments. Many of my students have disabilities and require modified curriculum as well.

As in Math, I am considered highly qualified in English Language Arts. My curriculum is designed uniquely for each student and helps students develop and practice strategies for a variety of applications within and outside school. Students in my classes, including students with moderate disabilities, show gains on state-wide and district assessments every year. As an avid reader and experienced professional writer myself, I have acquired knowledge of differentiated reading strategies that are explicitly taught to students at their own level and pace while challenging them to reach beyond their goals.

I have worked with K-6 students for 5 years in an educational setting and 3 years in a combined behavior and academic clinical setting. These experiences have allowed me to include learning behavior strategies in my practice that extend beyond my education as a Learning Behavior Specialist.

Apart from my aforementioned experience as a licensed special educator, I have worked with students with autism, Asperger's syndrome, traumatic brain injury, developmental delay, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, orthopedic impairment, speech and language impairments, emotional disturbance, and specific learning disabilities in a clinical setting. My practice combines implementation of behavior strategies for self-regulation, de-escalation, and self-redirection for attention. I primarily work with students with ADD/ADHD and autism.

Please contact me if you need additional evidence of my qualifications or would like to discuss an individualized program for your student.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have a Master of Science in Education and a Professional Educator's License for Special Education as a Learning Behavior Specialist with middle school endorsements, and currently teach 22 students with mild to moderate disabilities including low incidence. I also tutor students with ADD/ADHD teaching them learning behavior strategies as well as academic content. In addition, I have a background in neuroscience and worked with students with ADD/ADHD in a neuropsychology practice prior to teaching.
