My 30+ year teaching career has taken me from Colorado to Southern India and back to Illinois. I have taught students as young as 3 years old up through college age. I received my ESL certification in 2005 and I enjoy working with international students. Through ESL techniques I am able help students understand and excel in all school subjects.
There is nothing more rewarding than to watch a child aquire the language skills to help them soar to the heights of their educational abilities.
Math is my favorite subject as I am able to understand and verbalize the properties in different ways. This helps students with any challenges grasp the basic concepts of mathematical properties.
I spent 20 years in India teaching students how to speak spoken English. After returning to America, I have had several 3 year old students who entered my class speaking no English, only to leave one year later chattering in full sentences with their friends. I have also spent the last 3 years partnering with a Chinese/Japanese student, helping her to develop her English language. She attained the level needed to attend and graduate from U of I and go on to land a job in a large bank in Los Angeles.
My master's degree is in Early Childhood Education which has further prepared me to handle the educational subjects students through 3rd grade study in school. I have applied for an Illinois State Teaching License and am expecting it to be awarded in the next few months. I have also taught students in all elementary grades.
I have been using and training others to use Microsoft Word for over 10 years. I also have the ability to use and teach PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher along other popular computer programs.
I would love to meet you and discuss the needs of you or your child. I am available to provide classes after the child's regular school day during the week and weekends on occasion. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In December 2014 I received my Master's of Education in Early Childhood Education with a 4.0 GPA. I taught in a private elementary school in India from 1996-2010.
I lived and worked in southern India from 1991 to 2010. During that time I taught students, at all level of education, spoken English. Since returning to America I have had several students enter my 3 year old preschool class speaking no English. Within a year each of them was speaking English with their friends and learning basic pre-reading skills. I love to watch ESL students progress and grow in their language ability!
