I'm a recent graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a double major in physics and astronomy. I ended my undergraduate career in three years time with a GPA of 3.70. I'm a recent graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a double major in physics and astronomy. I ended my undergraduate career in three years time with a GPA of 3.70. Currently, I'm a research assistant in an observational cosmology laboratory at UIUC. I spend my time analyzing data retrieved from telescopes that observe the echoes produced by the big bang (SPIDER, South Pole Telescope). Next year I'll be applying to graduate schools to pursue a PhD in astronomy & astrophysics.

During my undergraduate career, I gained a more intimate grasp of how physics, astronomy, and math describe our universe with profound precision. Although learning these subjects has been an enlightening, I'm equally passionate about sharing this knowledge with others. Seeing students understand and appreciate material after having it explained patiently is an extremely rewarding experience for me, and something I'd like to continue for the rest of my life. I prefer to teach these subjects by blending both the mathematical rigor of a concept with our physical intuition of nature. I emphasize working through physics problems using only symbolic manipulation at first to reveal how different quantities depend on each other mathematically, and then match those relationships to our physical intuition. I believe this fosters the type of thinking needed for solving more complex problems encountered in scientific research where the answer is not in the back of the book.

I have previous experience tutoring college and high school level physics and math to students, and I'd like to continue that now. Although I'll have less time than before, I'm free weekday evenings and on weekends to tutor both high school students struggling with AP courses (I received 5's in both AP physics C and AP calculus BC), and UIUC students taking physics courses such as PHYS 211, 212, 213, 214, and MATH 220, 221, 231, 285 as well as any ASTR courses. I prefer meeting in person at a coffee shop or a library, but online will work to. Thank you!

Python

Python

For the past two years, I have used Python for scientific research. Specifically, I used Python for analysis of large astronomical data sets such as ones retrieved by theDark Energy Survey, or the South Pole Telescope. Besides data analysis, I also have extensive experience visualizing data in plots and other representations needed for scientific research.

Great tutor

Robert began teaching me at the beginning of this years semester. In the past I have had problem with tutors that don't know the content which I am learning since I go to a school with a harder math curriculum. I have had to learn the content with the tutor which is not ideal because it doesn't maximize the tutor time. Robert on the other hand is incredibly smart and knows everything about the math that I am learning. To think that being a tutor isn't his main job he can help me when I am stuck on a problem and guide me through the material. Overall he is always on time and has been very helpful with rescheduling at short notice.
