I am certified teacher with more than a decade of experience looking to help students who are struggling or would like to get a step ahead in their learning. I have a wide range of experience of working with students in small-group, large-group and one on one settings. I am known to be patient and adaptable to each student's individual needs. I have worked with a large number of student with a variety of learning disorders and have numerous approaches to help each child feel successful in their own way!
I have a deep love and understanding for all things grammar, spelling, and reading related. I believe reading to be a fundamental skill in order to be successful in all subjects.
As an educator in the public school system, I have had the opportunity to learn and be trained on various common core methodologies and curriculum. Both of my own grade school children attend school where common core math is taught, and I am quite familiar with several grade level approaches and reasoning of this curriculum.
I not only taught a wide variety of elementary grade levels, I also tutored and ran after school extracurriculars with students who mainly fell within this age group.
I spent several years teaching Kindergarten, so I have spent extensive time studying the best practices of helping students learn phonemic awareness and phonics study. Phonemic awareness is the foundation for all reading abilities and I believe it should be held in very high regard.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As an educator in the public school system, I had various opportunities to attend and be trained on common core methodologies. I was also on our curriculum writing team to help adapt current MO state standards to meet new common core standards.
I have spent more than a decade teaching and working with grades K-6. I have been a classroom teacher for grades K, 2nd and 5th. I worked as a literature/reading assistant for grades K through 6. I am certified in MO for Birth-9th grade with an emphasis in reading and social sciences.
I taught Kindergarten for 6 years. Phonics and phonemic awareness were a fundamental portion of our everyday classroom experience.
