About Karen

Bio

I am an award winning teacher who loves to help children. I taught elementary school for 14 years. During that time, I taught first, third and fourth grade.

My own boys were uniquely different. So I know what it is like to have one son who excelled and the other who struggled. Each child needs to know he/she can!

I hold a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction. In addition to being an elementary teacher, I worked as a Math Interventionist and Gifted Specialist. As such, I believe it...

As such, I believe it is important to engage students with manipulatives, games and even songs to help learn concepts! I also love technology.

All students need to know foundational facts AND to understand the 'why'. We'll work using hands-on manipulatives and games to do just that. In addition, students need to be equipped with strategies to solve math problems. I worked as both a Math Interventionist and Gifted Specialist. So I can recognize stumbling blocks as well as opportunities for taking things a step farther!

I love reading and writing. One of my favorite books is Class Clown because it's so real and funny! I also love non-fiction books such as Candy Bombers because you can go back in time to learn about history. Students need to see books can be fun. In terms of writing, I think journals not only help you get to know students but they also serve as a springboard for grammar lessons.

I am an award winning elementary teacher who loves to help children succeed. I hold both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education. In my 14 years of classroom teaching, I have engaged students through games, songs, technology and other ways so learning can be fun.

I used to teach first grade. I have a host of songs, books and activities to help with phonics. I also taught third and fourth grade. So I am fully versed in the progression of those basic phonics skills.

Let's have fun learning. Let's make sure that you have the skills and confidence you need to do well in school. I care and will do everything I can to help you!

I hold a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education. Having taught first grade, I know the progression of letter, sound, word and sentence attack skills. Aside from grasping Dolch words (most commonly used words in our language), students must be able to decode words that follow a recognizable phonetic pattern. I will help students work on these skills.

First session

I like the way Karen presented the information in a way my daughter could understand. Plus, she was very friendly.
