Every student learns differently as I discovered in the 15 years of homeschooling my two daughters. As I study math and chemistry I have learned to look at difficult concepts from different angles, never give up, sometimes there is one part of a concept missing that puts up a wall to understanding, and once the missing piece is in place the whole thing makes sense.
(the ah-ha moment).
As your tutor I would help you tailor your study habits in math or chemistry to your own learning style, work on basic understanding of each task as you work to complete your goals. I can provide a variety of study materials to supplement class assignments which will bring you to a higher level of confidence and mastery.
Math minor in college, lots of hands on math to complete my PhD in Chemistry and subsequent years in the chemical industry, and 15 years of tutoring math to my homeschoolers, tutoring my high school junior in Algebra 1 and Algebra 2.
Chemistry major in college, was awarded a Teaching Assistantship in Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts, completed experimental portions of my dissertation in The Netherlands at the University of Nijmegen and completed my PhD in chemistry in 1987, worked in the chemical industry for several years.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss your needs and goals and see if my teaching style is a good fit for you. Nina was flexible and patient with my son (and me) as we needed to get a protractor, compass, and ruler for the work he was doing and she actually waited for me to run to the store to grab them! Once the lesson began, Nina was very good at getting my son to understand the materials so he continue on and finish up his homework.
Nina takes her time and uses different approaches to make sure that the student understands before she moves on to the next problem. Would definitely recommend her to anyone in need of a tutor for their child. Money well spent.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
