My name is Amanda H. and I am a 1st grade teacher. I have a bachelor's degree in educational psychology and have been teaching 1st grade for 3 years. I also have a middle school endorsement, so I am capable of many grades and skills, but my love is K-2. I am strong in building reading skills and math skills. My favorite time of my school day is when I get to work with my students in small groups or one-on-one. It is always more beneficial and I truly enjoy being able to differentiate instruction to meet their specific needs.
I have taught 5th grade math and 1st grade math for 3 years. Our math program is common core aligned, so I know what is expected.
I have taken guided reading courses and teach guided reading instruction daily. I also have phonics training.
All of my lessons are common core aligned and I teach at a school that expects common core standards to be taught.
I have many handwriting resources, but focus more on actually producing writing. Students in my room are expected to write narratives, opinion pieces, information pieces, and realistic fiction pieces. Our writing program is also common core aligned.
I have phonics training in the following programs: Michael Heggerty and Imagine It!
I truly love my job and I look forward to the opportunity of tutoring you. I would be interested only if tutoring can take place in a public location, such as a library. I would be available anytime Saturday or Sunday. If your kiddo is struggling and you think they could benefit from additional support, I would be happy to meet your student and see if I could offer support.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
