Hello! I am a former teacher looking for opportunities to tutor young people who need a little extra help with their studies. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and really enjoy helping children learn how to learn and to enjoy learning. I try to add some fun elements to it so the process is easier to remember. Every child learns in a different way, so I look for the way that suits each one the best. I had one child in a first grade class who had trouble remembering the sounds the letters of the alphabet made, so I made up a cheer for the letters and sounds. He loved it and remembered the sounds by doing the cheers!
I have taught children from Kindergarten through eighth grade in regular classrooms and substitute teaching. I taught Music and Art and worked in a Special Education classroom as a teacher's aide.
Three years were spent working with Developmentally Disabled children and Mentally Disturbed children in a residential facility.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Illinois State Teacher's Certification in Elementary Education K-9 obtained from Eastern Illinois University.
Being a musical instrument with 88 keys, a piano has the ability to provide sounds for songs and can be used as accompaniment for singing. The key names are A, B, C, D, E, F and G, and are repeated the length of the keyboard.
I have played piano for 50 years and know musical terminology and technique. I played with school bands, for church services, and majored in piano in college, along with elementary education. I also taught piano lessons to children for several years.
Study skills are the practices used in learning. These can include reading, writing, listening, copying, and doing over and over. All involve concentration and thinking skills. Studying usually means having a quiet place to study with a desk and a lamp, knowing what type of skills the individual needs to study in the most effective way for them. Some people are visual learners, some are auditory learners, and some are tactile learners. Study sessions should be set up with these needs in mind.
