About Laura

I am a substitute teacher with many years background conducting child therapy and education. I have an M.A. in Human Services and studied education before changing my BA major to psychology. I've taught children with ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, and many other issues techniques for handling those issues. I've also taught children ages 3-19 school subjects using learning principles and positive reinforcement. I also try to use Gardener's types of intelligences by discovering children's interests and using those to teach. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified to teach grade school. I am a substitute teacher and have taught for several years.I have 5 years teaching children. I have 3 more years teaching preschool children. I have 3 years doing therapy. I have a Masters degree.

Study Skills

I have a background as a teacher for 5 years and Masters degree in Human Services. I have helped many children with study skills both in my capacity as a substitute teacher and as a former child therapist. I also job coached/ tutored a young adult who had had a 150 IQ before getting a head injury with transition back to college. He needed help relearning how to study with his new attentional issues and relearn organizational skills. I also have several years as a preschool teacher teaching young children basic study/ learning skills.
