About Margaret

As a certified teacher in Illinois, I currently teach 6th grade in a northwest suburb of Chicago. I have experience teaching grades 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8. I hold Illinois endorsements in kindergarten through ninth grade general education, social studies and language arts. In addition to these subject areas, I also love teaching elementary math.

I believe in making learning fun while helping students progress from the level where they are and moving them forward. I take pride in seeing my students succeed. I am wiling to help your child with schoolwork or will help to reinforce basic skills that will help your child succeed in school.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Phonics is a critical skill in reading comprehension since students become more fluent readers when they are not stumbling on the words. I have experience teaching in grades 2,5,6 and 7. Reading

When teaching reading I focus instruction on the 6 active reading strategies that are employed by all good readers. I have experience teaching reading in grades 2,5,6 and 7. Social Studies

I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education. I am a licensed teacher in the state of Illinois with endorsements in social studies, reading and self-contained elementary education. I currently teach 6th grade social studies and reading/language arts.

Spelling
