Bio

As a tutor and avid writer, I am determined to sharpen students' understanding, as well as practice, of reading comprehension and writing. All four years of my college education required me to frequently write about my observations and opinions of what I was assigned to read. During those four years, I also routinely edited my classmate/friend's essays. This years-long journey drilled an important lesson into me - in order to even begin to comprehend the world around us, we must 1) read...

As a tutor and avid writer, I am determined to sharpen students' understanding, as well as practice, of reading comprehension and writing. All four years of my college education required me to frequently write about my observations and opinions of what I was assigned to read. During those four years, I also routinely edited my classmate/friend's essays. This years-long journey drilled an important lesson into me - in order to even begin to comprehend the world around us, we must 1) read about it as much as possible, and 2) write about what we read and express our views on it. That lesson is what drives me to be a reading and writing tutor.

In each session, my goal is to pinpoint the student's skill level in both reading and writing. I do so by reading the material for myself, and asking them to briefly explain to me what it's about. If they struggle, I will ask them questions such as, "do you think it could be about (the actual topic) instead?" In other words, I will talk with them about what the reading material means, and, if possible, relate it to the student's interests. In the field of writing, I will expect the student to prepare their best-effort draft for the start of each session. That way, the student and I will literally be on the same page when I am showing him or her what they are doing right, and what they need to improve upon.

I take education very seriously. Therefore, I will never charge for a lesson with which the student and/or the parent(s) are not 100% satisfied. In addition, I would greatly appreciate feedback on how well I am helping the student.

I understand that a lot of people have busy schedules, and last-minute things are bound to occur. That is why I have a 12-hour cancellation policy, and offer makeup classes.

I am able to meet at the public library that is most convenient for the student.

Score of 31 on the ACT English Section
