Hi. My name is Rita. I have a keen interest in helping others learn. I have a master's in social work and a master's in fine arts in writing. I am an artist, writer of short stories, and a therapist. I have taught high school students, tutored adults in English, tutored kids in American History and Literature.
I am laid back, easy to get along with, work at your pace, help you set goals you believe are attainable, and celebrate your successes. I take responsibility for my part in the tutoring relationship, but not yours. I encourage you to do the best you can but I am also clear that your success is based on how hard you want to work.
I love being a part of someone else's success, watching them get excited about how much they are learning and how well they are doing. Learning is a life long pursuit and it pleases me to continue to learn and it pleases me to help you continue to learn.
I am passionate about literature, reading, books. I am a writer of short stories. I read all the time. My undergraduate degree is in literature and I have an MFA in Writing. Information comes in all ways, newspapers, magazines, electronic media, books, libraries, the world. Engaging one's self in the world through these media and others is the central way we learn.

Without knowing the history of our country one cannot understand where we have been as a nation and where we can go as a nation and where one fits in that history. How we became the greatest nation on earth is worth learning about.
If you are not having fun learning American History or Literature and if you need to push yourself to understand these subjects because you need them to graduate perhaps I can help you reach that goal while making it interesting and maybe even fun. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
