About Sue

I am a private Bar/Bat Mitzvah and Hebrew/Jewish Studies tutor. My approach to private tutoring is to make sure the student feels comfortable with his/her abilities, and to always give positive feedback on the work they have accomplished. I set my lesson plans for each student according to his or her special needs.

I have experience privately tutoring B’nai Mitzvah students in the following: Torah & Haftarah trope & blessings, dvar Torah (speech), and the leading of prayer services.

I have been in Jewish Education my entire professional career. I have worked in the supplemental religious school world as a principal, teacher and Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutor, as a private tutor in Ivrit (Hebrew) and Judaic Studies, a private Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutor, and as a sub in the Jewish Day schools.

I was a principal in three religious schools. In each position, I worked as an Ivrit (Hebrew) tutor for students in need of assistance helping them catch up with the curriculum. I have worked individually with students, one-on-one, all with different needs. I also have experience as a Hebrew language teacher in religious schools as well.

My educational background includes a bachelor's degree in Jewish Studies from the Jewish Theological Seminary, and a master's degree in Jewish Education from NYU.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hebrew

I am a qualified tutor in my field due to my educational background, as well as my professional experience in the field. In all my positions as a teacher, principal, and private tutor I bring forth my knowledge of the subject to enrich my students' learning. In addition, my approach to teaching and tutoring is to provide a comfortable environment for each student so he/she can succeed. I find it very important to know the student's strengths and areas of challenge so I can set up my lesson plans in such a way that the student can absorb the material and feel terrific about the knowledge he/she has mastered.

I possess a Bachelor's Degree in Jewish Studies and a Master's Degree in Jewish Education. I have been working in the supplemental religious school world my entire professional career as a teacher, a principal, a private Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutor, as well as a private Hebrew and Jewish Studies tutor.
