I was born in Chicago, IL and due to my parent's divorce, ended up being raised in southern Spain, in Fuengirola, (Malaga). Although I've known for a long time that my first language was English, I've never remembered when I "didn't" know Spanish. Culturally speaking, it's always been like I had a foot in both countries. My main contact with the States was English, especially when coming every other year to visit my father's parents in Chicago, IL.
I've always appreciated knowing a second language and enjoyed the idea of being able to help others who are trying to learn it. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
