There are many paths to success in academics and many tools and techniques to learn. The great advantage of tutoring is the ability to craft a learning/teaching plan and develop the tools to connect you—-an individual--to the general material.
I have had the professional opportunity to nurture the people who have worked for me over the years at Good Morning America, in television newsrooms around the country and at a several start up businesses.
The key to their success was less about what I taught them than it was in identifying the best way to teach them. No two people have the same skills or educational level but our institutional requirements measure them the same way. We’ll know what we have to accomplish and together can develop the dynamic means to help master the material so that mastery is reflected in your grades and other accomplishments.
Engaging someone and watching him or her discover and connect with something new is rewarding in a unique way. There are many paths to success in academics and many tools and techniques to learn. Bob's been able to keep my son engaged in studies and interested in the subject matter throughout this summer. My son is enjoying his lessons and I'm hopeful that this will lay the right groundwork for high school.
Bob is absolutely wonderful. He immediately clicked with our son. More importantly, Bob has inspired our son to WANT to work hard. He has been a fantastic!
As we near the end of the semester, I am very happy that my son is working with Bob. My son's skills and confidence continue to grow stronger with Bob's guidance. My son looks forward to each session with Bob for two reasons: he recognizes the value of working with Bob and he enjoys it, too.
Bob is very pleasant and easy to work with. My son feels comfortable working with Bob. By working with Bob in this session, my son is developing skills to help him begin a writing project, thereby helping to build his confidence.
We feel like Bob is a gift from above. I can't even believe we were lucky enough to find him. When he began tutoring my high school freshman son who was really struggling, we saw IMMEDIATE improvement in my son's attitude toward school work and also in his confidence. We have also seen a dramatic improvement in his grades. My son looks forward to Bob's sessions, and we just increased his visits from once a week to twice a week. Besides all of these amazing results, Bob is just a great guy who everyone enjoys having around!
My husband and I were looking for a tutor for our son. We interviewed several tutors and selected Bob. He has been great. I appreciated the questions he asked about our son and he listened intently. I appreciate his life experiences and that will help to set our son at ease. After the first session I could tell that our son was comfortable with his new tutor Bob. Thank you! This process was very easy and extremely helpful.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Bob has extensive Senior Management Experience as the former Executive producer for Good Morning America, CEO of the pioneering Internet business channel, WebFN, Senior Vice President Programming, Production and Promotion at ReelzChannel, internationally as COO of Israel's Channel 10 and News Director of two major market television news operations.
He has developed, built and remade traditional and new media businesses and production units consistently evaluating budgets and staffing while creating innovative content and programming producing new revenues.
In more than 30 years of Senior Management experience, I have hired and managed the careers of hundreds of people--diverse in experience and background. There is nothing I have enjoyed more than identifying and nurturing talent.
In addition to this professional work, I've developed and taught courses and classroom exercises for University and High School students.
There's not a week that goes by that I don't hear from at least one of my former colleagues or someone I coached. Seeing so many of them grow from entry level work to significant major positions has been my greatest reward.
In the 700 hours I have spent with WyzAnt clients and the nearly identical number of additional hours with those referred to me by area medical and education Professionals, College is a focus of discussion.
I was an active member of the Dean's Advisory Board for the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University and was engaged regularly in strategy conversations with their just retired Dean of Admissions.
I have provided insight and recommendations to dozens of students as well as the children of our family and friends.
I have also worked with students on the suite of Admissions Essays.
A significant amount of my Tutoring time (600+ hours just with WyzAnt) is spent discussing Political Science in the context of History and Current Events.
While I majored in Broadcast Journalism at Syracuse University, my minor ("area of concentration") was Urban Politics for which I had to complete a Thesis on participation in municipal elections.
In addition to this Academic experience, I worked as a Broadcast Journalist Producing for ABC News/Good Morning America and the newsrooms--covering politics--at several local, major-market television stations.
I have worked with a variety of on-air and on line talent and performers--from local stations to the Network to pioneering streaming media work. And been in front of many different audiences.
The process is to develop what is a very natural skill--talking. The audiences connect only if you naturally communicate--even though you're likely reading notes or text, not to mention performing.
So much is in the writing for the ear not the eye--a basic broadcast guideline.
We'll work on all the tools to build your confidence to engage an audience.
In my more than 600 hours of tutoring WyzAnt clients (as well as my others) Religion in the context of both World History and as a subject itself are frequently studied.
Several of my clients are or have been students at religious High Schools and I have been able to tutor them effectively in their religious studies.
My children were students as a Parochial High School and I engage in ongoing learning as a student myself.
I wanted to emphasize the work I have been doing with each of my students. It's focus is as much on Organizational strategies as it is the specific (and certified) subject matter and or/specific assignments.
I have had experience mastering (and organizing) complex material (creating courses at the College level for example) both academically and professionally--building several large business and production organizations from scratch (staffing and budget strategies that had to be organized). In every case, I effectively communicated--visually and orally--the substance and value of my organization and systems management.
I have been playing Tennis competitively and rank as a 3.5 Player. I am a weekly participant in a drills-based session led by a USTA certified Coach. I understand stroke techniques and strategies and have experience communicating them.
If there is one skill you learn in school that you're guaranteed to use for the rest of your life, it's writing.
I have helped students and professionals develop personalized skills to tackle the two-step writing process: creating and crafting. We focus on developing the writer's "voice".
Several students have asked me to help them craft their College Essays.
