I am currently employed as a Bilingual Reading Specialist in a school with a two-way immersion dual language program.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, sewing, and spending time out in nature. I am a lifelong learner, and even after obtaining my masters degree I have continued to take classes and attend conferences and webinars in order to keep up with current research and to continually hone my teaching skills. What I enjoy most about tutoring is being able to tailor my instruction to the needs of individual students, and seeing their confidence grow as they experience success.
My strengths include the ability to develop fun, engaging lessons that build upon what a student already knows while targeting their areas of need. Through assessment and observation I am able to identify a student’s areas of strength and to tailor lessons to their abilities and interests.
In addition to an elementary teaching license, I have an endorsement in Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language. In addition to teaching native English speakers, I have a great deal of experience working with second language learners, both children and adults. As an adult, I myself am learning Italian and ASL, so I understand how it feels to learn an additional language. This has helped me to better understand the struggles that language learners can experience and has helped me to realize the importance of meeting students where they are and creating fun learning experiences that help students feel comfortable and to build upon what they know.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, and am certified to teach Spanish as a Foreign Language to students in grades K-9. In addition to that, I have spent time living, studying, and tea
