About Carleen

To foster critical thinking, facilitate lifelong learning skills, and to prepare students to function effectively as a nurse. To develop problem solving strategies and empower nursing students to be a success. To enable students to make concrete decisions about content resources and methods of learning. To make the connection of learning fun and disseminate information in an easy way to learn. As an educator I try to help students to better understand the content and do well with test taking. I also provide case study approaches to foster critical thinking skills. I also have an engaging personality and teaching style and hold the attention of the student during discussions. I also provide clear objectives and work with the student to meet those specific objectives for each session. I promote positive behavior and have a sense of respect for all students that I teach. I also maintain open communication with the student so that the education that is needed can be provided to the student without a problem.

My teaching experience is as follows: Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Psychology, Pediatrics, Fundamentals, Medical Surgical Nursing, Critical Care and Leadership. I presently teach at DePaul University and Olivet Nazarene University as an adjunct professor.

I encourage all students to contact me anytime through WyzAnt so I can help them with their studies. Thank you. Dr. Carleen V., RN, BSN, MSN, Ed.D.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Pharmacology

S.T.E.P.S.(Safety—Toleration—Efficacy—Price) are the techniques that I use to teach pharmacology. I have a masters in science in nursing and teach clinical for over fifteen years at various universities. Teaching the various types of drugs are broken down into several categories, Renal, Cardiac, Psychotropics, and general medications that are used for more than one use. For example, if someone is having pain (neuropathic pain) it is pain when someone has a below the knee amputee, they need more than dilaudid or morphone for pain. So the physician usually orders an adjuvant for pain control. The following three drugs are used for this, Abilify, Neurontin, and Lyrica.
