My tutoring is based on my belief that each person has limitless potential and the ability to succeed in whatever he/she does. It is my goal as a tutor to provide my students with the tools they need to overcome their challenges and achieve their full potential in a way that will prepare them for lifelong learning. I seek to do this by guiding them through the learning process, helping them form critical thinking skills as well as build an independent understanding and lasting knowledge of the instructional objective being studied.
I believe the key to educational success is a love for learning and therefore I focus on making my tutoring sessions both effective and enjoyable for the student, using creative and varying ways to learn what is being studied. Because I believe the student’s progress is contingent on his or her motivation I place a high importance on motivators and giving my students a goal they are excited about reaching.
I have tutored both independently and as an instructor at a learning center, which has provided me with experience using my own resources as well as using an established curriculum. I am flexible about working with the parents in coming up with a plan that meets the unique needs of the student, whether that be using their own curriculum, using my materials and resources, or a combination of both. My husband and I feel so lucky to have gotten Miss Rebekah as a tutor this summer. Our son loved her class from the start. She helped him get organized, motivated, and above all, interested in learning, which is no small feat. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
