About Jaclyn

I have been teaching full time for 15 years. I have worked with typically developing students and students with special needs. I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University of Iowa and a master's degree from Northeastern Illinois University in early childhood special education. I am an easy going person and can identify with my students very well. I like to explain concepts on a level that is interesting for the student as well as engaging. If I know how a student learn I am able to cater to their particular learning style. Having a background in special education, I have taught in many different situations and have worked with all learning styles. I am very flexible and get along with everyone. I currently teach at the middle and high school level in a private school. I am currently teaching grades 4 & 5 in a self-contained autism classroom and I teach the gen ed curriculum. I do have to modify lessons daily to reach my students who are at a much lower grade level and also for those who are much higher. I currently teaching in the public school system and would love to be available for your child. I have been teaching full time for 15 years. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have my master's degree in early childhood special education. I have also taught special education for many years, including at a private school specifically for children with ADD/ADHD and Asperger's syndrome.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have my master's degree in early childhood special education. My special education endorsement goes from birth to 21 year olds. I have worked extensively with autism and have worked with children who are severely autistic and nonverbal. This is my specialty.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my teacher certification in early childhood education. That goes up to 5th grade. I have also taught middle school math, english, history, and science. I feel I am qualified to tutor these grade levels.

Elementary Math

I have taught all the way up to Algebra. I also currently teach 4th and 5th grade math.

Reading

I teach 4th and 5th graders. I teach all subjects but reading is an emphasis with this group because comprehension is a challenge. I have a teaching certificate in early childhood (grades PK-5), bilingual Spanish and special education.

Spanish

I am a certified Spanish teacher, studied in Spain, and taught children whose only language was Spanish. I try to make Spanish fun and hopefully get students to see the importance of a second language!

Special Needs

I have special education teaching certificate. I have taught children with autism, ADD, Asperger's syndrome, Down's syndrome, Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum, developmental delays and speech and language delays.

Study Skills

I have strong study skills. I have always been very organized and think that because I attained my master's degree that is proof that I succeed in this area. I also have taught a study skills class to students with ADD and Asperger's syndrome.
