University of Illinois, Chicago
Hello! I want to take a few moments to share with you some of my background and my approach to tutoring. Graduating with highest distinction from the University of Illinois at Chicago, I received both my Bachelor of Arts and my state teaching certification. I have experience working in Chicago Public Schools. I also have worked at three universities, in both academic and administrative positions. Throughout my career, I have worked as a tutor and have over fifteen years of experience.
As a tutor, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of students, meeting a variety of goals. I have students from all over the world. Some of my students are gifted, special needs and English second language. I tutor for math, reading, writing and science from middle school through college, and I also tutor for standardized exams, such as the ACT, SAT, GED, GRE, ASVAB, TOEFL, TOEIC and TEAS. I also have experience structuring curriculum and working with both homebound and homeschooled students.
What is adaptive teaching?
Whether you are pursuing a specific goal on a standardized test or in a class, you need a suitable learning environment. All too often, we are in an setting that supports only one learning style, and this can cause us to miss critical information or foundational concepts. My approach is simple: adaptive teaching. As learners, we all have a unique learning style, and we learn best when concepts are provided in a way that best fits that style. I work with each of my students to identify what their learning style is and help them to understand it for themselves. I then adapt my teaching style to better suit their needs. This not only assists in long term retention of material, but helps each of my students to better understand their studying needs.
As an educator, I have the priviledge of helping people to realize goals that they once thought were impossible, and I look forward to getting to know you and helping you achieve your goals! Hello! Victoria has been a great help to my Daughter. Victoria is her tutor for one year since she was in 6th grade. Victoria is very patience with her and pay great attention on her progress. She is a perfect blend of strictness and kindness. She is capable of recognizing a student's potential as well as weaknesses, apart from being very dedicated and sincere.
My daughter’s writing and reading ability has shown tremendous amount of improvements.
My daughter showed 20% improvement on her English MAP score and received good score for Explore test.
Victoria is also an extremely patient and kind person which creates a welcoming environment for the children to learn in her classroom. I would highly recommend Victoria as a tutor.
She is not just an amazing tutor, but also like a life coach for my child. She was able to assess the best way to teach (and reach) my child and major improvements have been made!! Thank you Victoria!
Identified the core of my problems and laid out a strategy to improve my study techniques. Reviewed my exam problems approach and suggested various corrections to help me manage time during exam.
My son looks forward to his tutoring sessions with Victoria. She is very patient and informative. He has already shown improvement in reading comprehension after only two sessions.
I met Victoria for an initial session that covered some areas of Excel and what I want to accomplish with Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
We brought Victoria in to instill proper writing skills and how to expand our boys thought process through writing. Victoria has achieved and exceeded what we were looking for. We will keep using her on a weekly basis and are beyond excited to see future progress. Worth the money!!!!
I highly recommend Victoria as a tutor. She was my daughter’s Math tutor for the past couple of years. She has been a great help. She helped build my daughter’s confidence in math and helped her become more skilled in reading comprehension. She goes above and beyond and is very sincere and dedicated. She has the ability to create solutions to any problems that the student might encounter. She understands the student’s strengths and weaknesses and comes up with strategies based on them that enables the student to excel. Even after my daughter’s weekly lessons were over, she encouraged her to call if she needed help or schedule a lesson as needed.
I would definitely recommend her as a tutor.
Victoria was very easy to work with and is a great teacher in that she understands when something is not making sense and successfully gave me instructions on what I am doing wrong so that I was able to learn and grow.
Helped my son with his algebra which he was rusty on. He now feels more comfortable doing his math problems. He even admitted it helped.
Victoria is an amazing tutor and teacher. She explains slowly and makes sure that you understand the concepts. She has so much energy and with that, the lesson is that much more enjoyable. I've learned a lot from her teaching methods in the short time I have been meeting with her. She's helping me prepare for the TEAS nursing entrance exam along with statistics that I'm going to start. She's awesome and I highly recommend her!
I highly recommend this tutor. She is very knowledgeable and presents information very clearly. She is very flexible in her approach to teaching. She always arrives on time and uses our limited time wisely.
My work environment tends to be constantly evolving, and there are a lot of technological components that I am not fully versed in. In the past, I have tried to work my way through tutorials, in order to process whatever I need to accomplish for the moment, but it has always been a frustrating process. Recently, I have had a lot of things that I have needed to accomplish with Microsoft Access, and I decided to try a tutor. I couldn't be happier! Victoria was able to address all of my concerns with Access. She explained things in a way that I could understand, and I am now able to utilize the software better than I had ever hoped! I also was able to ask her a variety of questions about other software and system concerns. She is highly knowledgeable and patient!
Awesome! Very pleasant and knowledgeable and patient. I had one session with her so far, but I can already tell I hired a great one! I'm continuing to learn under her studies, and she is making the learning process inviting instead of intimidating to learn a subject. Especially math. Also ASVAB prep.
Victoria has made amazing strides at identifying and working on skills and issues that my son is lacking in order to be a successful student. We are very pleased with the affect Victoria has had on his outlook.
Victoria has been able to reach my son and HELP him to perform better through her patience and knowledge. She explains the lesson thoroughly and reviews the answers to the questions (ACT) during the session so he is aware of his mistakes and how to avoid making the same ones. This was a much better option for my son rather than sitting in one of those group ACT classes. He has been enrolled in reading comprehension classes recommended by the school and nothing has improved his scores AND self esteem like Victoria. She is so kind and accommodating I will be bringing her my next ACT student shortly. ACT=MONEY FOR SCHOOL and this is this BEST MONEY I have spent that has actually HELPED him to improve. He feels better about himself and that confidence translates into higher achievements. So glad we found VICTORIA!!!!
This tutor is so nice, calm, and patient. I took the ASVAB on Thursday and got a 40 and qualified for Military Police in the US Army which was my dream job. I also qualified for other jobs like Infantry, Apache Mechanic, Artilleryman, etc. Thank you and I really appreciate it. I will be taking my physical exam at MEPS in Des Plaines next month and hopefully get sworn in before Christmas eve this year!!! Thank You so much!!!
Victoria is a great tutor, who quickly understands not only my English level but my personality and attitude toward learning English. She makes my strong points and weak points clear, and tries to do her best to improve my ability. Also, she is very caring and has a good knowledge of other cultures. She has a great power of observation and brings out the best in me. She is so dependable!
Victoria is a good tutor and she understood how to teach statistics to me. She was also very flexible with meeting locations and times. I was an adult student trying to complete my accelerated statistics class and she was very thorough in helping me to understand my homework and prepare for my finals to complete my undergraduate degree.
I also needed her services for my daughter in completing a summer geometry class. My H.S daughter was able to gain an understanding of the subject and pass the class with a B!
My daughter only met with her few times, and I can tell already how her confidence is back and she feels relieved and secure taking her tests in school. My daughter likes her a lot. She is patient and can tell right away were is the problem in her understanding of the subject. I feel sorry that I couldn't find Victoria earlier, before we wasted time and money on Huntington a.c. which did not help at all. I really hope that Victoria will be able to tutor my daughter for the next school year.
Victoria is very sharp and offers a great deal of knowledge and competency. Very happy with her work. I would definitely recommend her to anyone.
Victoria is very patient and really knows math. She provides detailed instruction and excellent notes. I am passing my math class in no small part because of her.
Victoria rocks! She is a phenomenal teacher; patient, kind, encouraging and incredibly bright. She was a God-send! We, like many others, wish we would have called her sooner. She was incredible and you definitely won't go wrong with her!
When I spoke to Victoria, she advised me that she was familiar with the United States Air Force Test my son is studying for, which was great. She is very professional, and my son is very comfortable and eager to work with her. My only regret is that I did not know about this service when he was in high school. Great job!
I have been working with Victoria for well over 5 months. I have a unpredictable job, and I sometimes make my tutor meetings very last minute. Victoria is quick to return phone calls, text messages, and email and is always willing to meet me at a location that works well for me. She successfully discusses, demonstrates, and in some cases draws out explanations of the MBA level accounting questions that I need work on. I email her the items I would like to discuss and she ALWAYS comes to the lesson prepared and very knowledgeable on the subject matter. She is great to work with, and because of her ability to make a complex problem understandable, I have a better understanding of the fundamentals of accounting.
Victoria did a fantastic job of putting our granddaughter at ease and helping give her a positive attitude as she prepared for summer tutoring, which she was not looking forward to. Our granddaughter actually requested that they start the next day instead of waiting for the next week.
Victoria explains the lessons in a way that keeps you focused and makes you want to learn more.
Victoria is very patient and knows how to help a student get over a hump. She takes time to explain things so no matter who you are she finds your learning style. I have found that she can explain difficult concepts better than most teachers I have had.
We're happy to get Victoria tutoring our kids, she already jumped into our goals, she's very patient and very clear so far everything is good, this week we're getting math lessons (our target) and we hope that she'll get the same results as reading.
I was looking for someone to help me get through Algebra 1 because it's been too many years to count since I have had any exposure to it. While doing a search in your database for tutors near my area, I took a look at Victoria's profile. I sent her a message and she responded to me right away. We set up our initial meeting and made beautiful music ever since. I just wanted to say that Victoria was patient and understanding about my needs and I was thoroughly impressed. Thank you so much for everything Victoria and I cannot wait until we have another opportunity to work together!
Victoria has been an inspiration to me. I was upset when I lost my business and had to go back to applying for Administrative Assistant/Executive Secretary in the business world previous to owning my own business of 4 successful years.
Due to the economy, I have been unemployed for 3 months now, even though I have extensive experience. That was not the problem. In order to get ahead at Age 50, I knew I had to be proficient in Word/Excel to keep up with younger people. Victoria has taught me in a way that I look forward to practicing every day on my own, knowing my success will come because of her tutoring, patience and the fact that I am a tough cookie and she exudes an easy presence about her that calms me down. Also a great listener with regard to the issues I have at hand.
Victoria is an excellent tutor. She has brought me back to life and put me on the path of being the successful person I know that I am.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
