In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My minor at college was Mandarin Chinese. After graduating I spent a year in China where I taught English to high school students. While there I used the language skills I had acquired to communicate whenever possible. I have some materials such as the books I used when learning and a some things I picked up while living over there to use for teaching. Along with teaching at the high school level I also taught at a private elementary school for several months. I am very personable and can get along with any age student quite well
I would be comfortable tutoring up to intermediate level since this language is very difficult. I am willing to do whatever it takes to help the student advance their learning of this subject and hope to see them succeed.
I have experience teaching ESL to non-native English speakers both in the US and abroad. On a daily basis I am asked to help non-native speakers with their communication, whether it is editing documents or helping with pronunciation of words. My strong points are teaching everyday expressions, formal and informal conversations and translating incorrect sentences into correct sentences.
