As a former math teacher at many levels, my philosophy has always been that all students can learn to enjoy math! As a former math teacher at many levels, my philosophy has always been that all students can learn to enjoy math! Aligning mathematical problems to real-world situations is the key to understanding mathematical principles and solving course related assignments. My life experiences as an engineer and mathematics teacher for many years will provide those situations and make math more enjoyable for the student. I believe every student can learn math, at their pace and level of understanding. Together we can identify the pace and benchmark a starting point to build confidence in learning procedures for solving math problems.

My tutoring experience includes a wide range of student ages and levels of knowledge and most often encompasses applying mathematical principles to real-world problems so that students understand the WHY of mathematics (aka: when am I ever going to use math?). The most important skill for a mathematics tutor is to listen to the student and be open to their method of determining a solution. Students process knowledge differently and the joy of tutoring is discovering that process together!

The range of mathematical content I have taught over the years provides the foresight to bridge grade levels and offer insight to future problem solving skills for a variety of subjects. With my engineering background, I do my best to align student assignments to real-world applications which assists in answering the WHY of mathematics.
