Belmont University - Nashville (Art History)
The University of Warwick, UK (Master's)
My name is Caitlin, I have recently completed my MA in the History and Business of Art and Collecting from the University of Warwick in the UK. I am originally from St. Charles and attended a High School where I graduated with the highest honors. From there I attended University of San Diego and studied Marine Science. After 2 years I transferred to Belmont University and changed majors to Art History and French. While at Belmont, I frequently led study sessions for my classmates to prepare for exams. I then moved to Paris to begin my MA studying the history of art collecting. I lived in Paris and London for two and a half years completing my MA and working as a nanny for children aged 6 and 10. I helped them with reading and writing homework daily, along with other duties such as cooking dinner and basic chores.
I do have experience studying Science, although I am most comfortable with the Humanities, such as English, History, Literature, Art, and Theology. I love studying and finding fun ways to remember facts; I am a big fan of color coordinating my notes, making flashcards, and coming up with mnemonic devices to help remember tricky subjects. I love to read, I am a huge Harry Potter fan! Additionally, my academic interests include 19th century Irish history, 19th century American history, specifically Chicago history, and Art History ranging from 15th-19th century.
Since Art History is a reading and writing intensive subject, I have spent many hours poring over academic literature, writing, and editing my own papers. Additionally, I spend a lot of free time reading on my own, and have amassed a wide range of vocabulary. I also helped edit my sister's writing whenever she needed my assistance in high school and college.
I am looking forward to helping any student who needs my help. I am positive, enthusiastic, dedicated, and excited to begin this journey! Feel free to contact me. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor this subject because I hold a BA and a MA in Art History. I specialized in Western European Art History and 19th century American art collecting practices. I regularly led study sessions during college for my classmates to prepare for upcoming exams. I found the best way to study for Art History was to make slides of each work of art and test myself on how much I could recall about the specific work, including artist, time created, art movement, material used, its role in art history, who commissioned the work or where it was displayed, etc.
