Valerie is very patient. She sees her student as an individual, and utilizes individualism to work with and relate to them. She identifies their strong areas and their weak areas and moves forward from there. Reinforcing both! We've already seen improvement in a short period of time and we never get complaints about having to meet with Valerie. Great tutor!
Valerie has turned my granddaughter's attitude about math completely around. Her understanding of math concepts and confidence with herself is such a turnaround. All this is reflected in her math grades! Thank you Valerie!
Our 12 year old son was struggling with mathematics at Middle school. As parents, we found it difficult to explain maths to him correctly. We just confused him even more! Luckily we found Valerie. As a Tutor she has the unique ability to connect to our son's way of learning. In addition to this she gives our son helpful "tips" to use at school. Within a short period of time our son has shown confidence in maths and his grades are improving. Thank you for all your patience & help Valerie.
Valerie has been extremely responsive and easy to work with. She has a well-prepared, yet individualized approach to assist with ACT preparation work. We have been extremely impressed with her methodologies and pleased to recommend to others.
Val is very available and flexible with hours.
My son who is preparing for the ACT comes back after tutoring sessions reporting that he is becoming more comfortable with the questions. He is feeling more confident and feels the sessions are really helping him to prepare for the test. He looks forward to the next tutoring session. I would highly recommend Val.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching early childhood education for the St. Charles Park District for over a year now. My classes have included math and reading for 4 and 5 year olds, as well as other interesting topics. I have tutored an 8 year old from Ethiopia who came here with little more than her English alphabet. After one summer with me, she successfully learned to read, write, and speak English and tested into her age-appropriate grade level. I have also completed two years of graduate level education at Aurora University where I have studied elementary and middle school coursework, missions, and methods. I have two more classes to complete, as well as a semester of student teaching, and will have earned my Master of Arts in Teaching with Certificate and middle school endorsement in Mathematics from the state of Illinois. Both of my elementary school-aged children are well above their math and reading levels for their grade in school due to the time I have spent with them and the tools I have given them to succeed - socially, emotionally, and academically.
My love for literacy is reflected in each of my students. I recently completed my Master of Arts in Teaching after student teaching in a second grade classroom. Our focus each day was weighted heavily on literacy. I have learned so many ways to catch and retain the attention of young readers of all levels! I enjoy getting students excited about reading and creating life-long learners.
