I enjoy helping others learn new skills and subjects. I use every day examples to enforce the subject matter and make it easy for students to understand. In high school and college I became the person that other students would come to for assistance with their classes even when we did not have the same teacher and sometimes did not even have the same subjects. I assisted many students in various math, accounting, chemistry and music classes while maintaining a high GPA and class load myself, taking care of my family and working several part time jobs as well.
I have a unique way of teaching the math skills by showing students where the math is used in every day situations. I make sure that the student understands the concepts and can show me that they do before moving on to a new concept.
I love accounting and business and have over 23 years of working accounting experience. I have trained several assistants and volunteers in the workplace as well as co-workers and supervisors that did not know very much about accounting. that did not know anything about accounting when they started their business. I have also explained complex accounting situations to small business owners I realize that everyone learns in a different way and I try to find out how each student learns then I use that method to tutor them. I find that most students learn best when they are shown how to solve the problems using common situations such as the checkbook or measurements.
I will come to the student and can tutor in the home, at the school, local library or any other public place that is convenient for you. I do try to be flexible and understanding but at the same time I do require at least 24 hours notice for cancellation unless there is a real emergency situation. Makeup sessions can be scheduled when there is a cancellation. I enjoy helping others learn new skills and subjects. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been an accountant for over 23 years. While in college in 1991 - 1992 I was in charge of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA). As the leader I was in charge of selecting the other volunteers, training them, ordering the materials needed, setting up the locations, advertising the sites, preparing income taxes myself and reviewing the preparations of the other volunteers before sending the returns to my IRS supervisor. At the end of the 1992 tax season I was informed that my site was the only one in Illinois to submit 100% of the tax returns correctly. I have assisted others with their tax returns and in November - December 2013 I took the H & R Block Income Tax class and passed their class with a 91%.
