Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a College Honors student who can certainly help young children with their home work. As part of the college of Liberal Arts and Sciences, I took varied courses and had great success (English, Math, Science, etc.)

I have experience with young children from a daycare in France where I taught children ages 2-12.

ESL/ESOL

Help students whose native language is not English in speaking, reading, and writing.

I am a native English speaker, and I participated in the ESL program during student teaching.

Learning the difficult French language means I comprehend languages and how to teach them. I can work in ESL as a tutor and increase your ability to converse in the English language. I can also teach you how to read and write with more accuracy.

French

I love French!!! I have Advanced Oral Proficiency that I earned from studying French since middle school. I started French in middle school, took 4 years of French including AP French, and my major at UIC was the Teaching of French. I have a 4.0 in French and a 3.54 overall college GPA. I love French! It's my passion. I'm a K-12 licensed French Teacher who loves every teaching opportunity.

Reading

I am an excellent reader because I can read and write in both English and French. My highest scores on tests have been in the reading area. I love to read and I am often at the library filling a bag up with books.

Special Needs

I took SPED410, a special education course for learners with disabilities for a semester at the University of Illinois at Chicago. We learned about various disabilities and how to adjust teaching and teaching style to match the needs of the learners.

Special needs was also part of our hours of teaching in a classroom. At Hoffman Estates High School, I was coached by the special education teacher and observed students with mild to severe learning and cognitive disabilities. I was also exposed to life skills learning and team teaching wherein three teachers taught as one team

At St. Viator High School, I reviewed the IEP’s of students and developed awareness for how to modify lessons. I was also coached by the special education teacher to read tests to meet the needs of students that required their exams be read to them.

Study Skills

A high honors student in middle school and an honors student in high school, I have great study skills. I also graduated college with honors (Cum Laude).

I have had to study and pass 4 examinations to get my teaching license: 1)The Illinois Basic Skills Test 2) The French content teaching area exam 3) The Oral Proficiency Interview in French and 4) The Assessment of Professional Teaching Exam.

I know how intimidating it can be to pass these types of exams, and I know how to gather the material and find what to study to pass them. I can help your student study effectively as well as pass his/her exams.
