About Kevin

I am a motivated tutor and a life-long learner passionate not only about my own education, but also the education of those students in need academic assistance. I currently tutor students online in a variety of topics that include English, Writing, Psychology, and ACT test preparation along with most Biological Science subtopics.

As a senior Molecular and Cell Biology Major at The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, I tutored younger students in Cell Biology, Human Physiology, Anatomy, and Neurobiology. As a dental student at the University of Illinois-Chicago College of Dentistry, I gave bi-weekly presentations to a group of my peers during my D1 and D2 years--these presentations were meant to help my colleagues better understand concepts in Biological Sciences; each presentation focused on a specific area of bodily systems and functions.

I earned my B.S. in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (May 2011). My undergraduate course work included the following: Immunology (MCB 408) Cell and Membrane Physiology (MCB 401) Biochemistry and Physical Basis of Life (MCB 354) Human Anatomy/Gross Lab (MCB 334/335) Genetic and Genomics (MCB 323) Introduction to Neurobiology (MCB 317) Experimental Microbiology (MCB 301) Microbiology (MCB 300) Human Physiology (MCB 270) Experimental Techniques in Cellular Biology (MCB 253) Cells Tissues and Development (MCB 252) Experimental Techniques in Molecular Biology (MCB 251) Molecular Genetics (MCB 250) Molecular and Cellular Basis For Life (MCB 150) Elementary Organic Chemistry/Laboratory (CHEM 222/223) General Chemistry II/Laboratory (CHEM 103/104) General Chemistry I/Laboratory (CHEM 101/102) Calculus (MATH 220) Statistics (STAT 100) Psychopharmacology (PSYC 413) Abnormal Psychology (PSYC 238) Social Psychology (PSYC 201) Principles of Business and Technical Writing (BTW 250) College Physics: E&M and Modern Physics (PHYS 102) College Physics: Mechanics and Heat (PHYS 101).

I took the Dental Admissions Test (DAT) with the following results: Cumulative Dental Admissions Test Score: 20.

The Survey of the Natural Sciences is a test of achievement. The content is limited to those areas covered by an entire first-year course in biology, general chemistry, and organic chemistry. The examination is comprised of 100 items: 40 biology items, 30 general chemistry items, and 30 organic chemistry items.
My score: 25.

The Reading Comprehension Test consists of three reading passages, each with 16 to 17 items. The reading passages are scientific in nature and may reflect topics covered in dental school. Applicants are encouraged to read each passage before attempting to answer the corresponding questions. My Score: 23

The Perceptual Ability Test includes various types of nonverbal visual acuity items. There are six sections in the Perceptual Ability Test. One section covers two-dimensional perception, while the other sections cover three-dimensional perception. My Score: 19

As a D.M.D candidate at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry my course work and education have included courses in all the dental specialties:
General Dentistry, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Implant Dentistry Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, Oral Medicine, Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry

I passed my National Dental Boards Exam Part I (NBDE I) which included questions in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Histology, Microbiology, etc.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I took the ACT one time with another overall score of 30. I scored a 32 in the English section. Taking AP English Literature and AP English Composition prepared me well for the test. I am quite proficient in grammar, diction, and syntax.

Anatomy

I took Anatomy and Gross Anatomy lab as an Undergraduate the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and again as a graduate/professional student at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry. I passed the National Dental Board Exam (NBDE) Part I which consists of four sections: one section focused solely on human anatomy. I have a firm grasp of Anatomy and have proven over and over that my approach to studying Anatomy leads to success in the classroom.

Biology

I earned my B.S. in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (May 2011). My undergraduate course work included the following: Immunology (MCB 408) Cell and Membrane Physiology (MCB 401) Biochemistry and Physical Basis of Life (MCB 354) Human Anatomy/Gross Lab (MCB 334/335) Genetic and Genomics (MCB 323) Introduction to Neurobiology (MCB 317) Experimental Microbiology (MCB 301) Microbiology (MCB 300) Human Physiology (MCB 270) Experimental Techniques in Cellular Biology (MCB 253) Cells Tissues and Development (MCB 252) Experimental Techniques in Molecular Biology (MCB 251) Molecular Genetics (MCB 250) Molecular and Cellular Basis For Life (MCB 150).

Organic Chemistry

I completed Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My dental admissions test (DAT) included an organic chemistry section in which I scored in the 80th percentile. I've been tutoring organic chemistry online for almost two years.

Physiology

I have a background in Physiology and Anatomy with a B.S. in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign where I received A's in Human Physiology, Anatomy, and Gross Anatomy Lab. As a dental student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, I took Physiology covering all systems of the human body. I passed my National Dental Board Examination (NBDE) Part I, which had four sections--one covered Physiology specifically and one covered Anatomy specifically.

Vocabulary

I took the ACT one time with another overall score of 30. I scored a 32 in the English section and a 35 on the reading section. Taking AP English Literature and AP English Composition prepared me well for the test. I am quite proficient in vocabulary, grammar, diction, and syntax.
