The moment when a concept clicks in a student's mind, after hours of explanation and study, is solely the reason why I enjoy teaching and working with youth. As a tutor, it is my goal to instill a drive for lifelong education while guiding students to realize their potential.
As a cum laude graduate of Monmouth College, I was chosen to work side by side with students who were on academic probation. I met with three students weekly and helped them keep track of assignments, organize their schedule, and create a plan to complete the semester successfully. This was a rewarding part of my college career because I was able to see the students thrive in an environment they had not before.
Writing, proofreading, and citations are a large part of preparing for higher education. As a graduate of a liberal arts college, I have been challenged, in many different instances, to comply my thoughts and display them in an academic format. I am passionate about helping students master these skills, for they will use them for the rest of their life.
With a B.A. in History, I was able to explore many different areas of the world at different times. I have taken classes on the Atomic Bomb, U.S.A. in the 1960s, Brazil, and Western European history, just to name a few. I have mastered the art of citations in both M.L.A. and Chicago style formatting.
I am available for tutoring on weekdays after 6:00pm and Saturday afternoons after 2:00pm. My base rate is $35 per hour and I prefer to meet students in person. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a B.A. in Theatre Arts form Monmouth College. Our degree tract included both acting and theatrical design elements. As a part of the program, I spent very summer assisting in a children's production hosted by the art council in town. In this production we taught the art to students in second grade to seniors in high school.
