Well hello! My name is Chris and I've been in education, in one capacity or another, for 13 years. I am a certified teacher for grades K - 9 and I am endorsed in both Language Arts and Social Science.
I have taught Kindergarten, first and third grade. I have also tutored one-on-one, online for a homework help site and at a tutoring center.
As a teacher, I taught all subjects in the classroom but my focus for tutoring is English and all aspects of it, from Language Arts (grammar) to literature.
As a teacher and as a tutor, I modify my teaching style to fit a variety of learning styles and abilities.
With younger children, I sometimes use a concrete reward (stickers, scented stamps) and with older children, I sometimes use a delayed reward (goal-setting for bigger reward). Well hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked in education in one capacity or another for 13 years, several of which were teaching full time in the classroom. I taught Kindergarten, first and third grade.
I worked as an instructional assistant in an intermediate (grades 3-5) school. I worked in a pull-out Reading, Spelling, Math program for the special needs team and substitute taught when needed. I also assisted the classroom teachers for all three grade levels in their classrooms with day to day tasks.
I taught First grade full time for two years teaching all subjects in a self-contained classroom.
I worked as an inclusion assistant in a middle school (grades 6-8). I worked with a small group of special needs students inside their mainstreamed classrooms but also closely with them in their special ed classes.
I also did one-on-one tutoring, online homework tutoring and worked at a tutoring center, the majority of which was at the elementary level.
I taught Kindergarten for two years and Third grade for one year - same school, both self-contained.
