About Michael

Hey everyone! I have taught math and coached track for the last 30 years. That's right! I have taught AP Calculus and AP Stats for many, many, years. I recently finished another degree in mathematics online. I have tutored and helped students in math for more than 30 years.

I have been told repeatedly that I make math easier to understand. Most students say "why didn't my teacher just put it like that?" Because I have seen most every roadblock to understanding, I know that I can help you.

It is critically important to be able to understand why you are using the math. And I know why! And, I can explain it to you. I am good with the Ti-83/84 calculator and I can simplify things for you there as well. Tough Calculus problem? They can be. Let me simplify them with you.

Do you need a no-nonsense person that knows their math, as well as a person that will explain things simply enough that you will understand it? Then give me the chance to help you. You will not be sorry.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have a Master's degree in Math Education, and I have taught all of the topics included on the math segment of the ACT. In the last 32 years of my career as a high school math teacher, I have actually taught an ACT preparatory class 16 times as part of my schedule. I have access to a great amount of materials, and the average student has raised their score by five points under my direction.

Algebra 1

I have a Master 's degree in Math Ed. and I have taught Algebra 1 for the better part of my 33 year career in education.

Algebra 2

I have a Master's degree in Mathematics Education, and I have taught Algebra 2 for the better part of the last 30 years at our high school. A strong background in Algebra is necessary to be successful in Calculus and at the college level. I was the math guy for the Homework Hotline back in the mid eighties to mid nineties, and I handled primarily Algebra 2 questions.

Calculus

I have taught AP Calculus and tutored Calc. 1 & 2 at the college level for the past 15 years. I have a Master's degree in Math Education. I have written the AP Calculus curriculum, and had it approved by the AP College Board, for my high school. I have attended three week-long seminars sanctioned by the AP College Board to keep up with changes being made to the AP test. I have taught both the AB and BC courses.

Geometry

I have a Master's degree in Math Education, and I have taught Geometry/ Honors Geometry for the better part of the last 30 years at our high school. I wrote the curriculum for an informal Geometry course for our athletes to take that was rigorous enough to pass clearing House regulations. I have also taken a course in Geogebra and Geometers Sketchpad.
