I have worked in the public schools throughout Illinois for the past 18 years teaching kindergarten through high school age students. Currently I teach college age students critical thinking skills one night per week. I am a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and Roosevelt University with a Bachelors degree in Special and Elementary Education and a Masters degree in Teacher leadership.
I am willing to tutor one-on-one or a small group of students because I feel that many students who struggle in school are lacking the personalized attention needed to help them be more successful. As a former teacher, I have many tricks for helping students learn and teaching them how to study. Christine has helped with lab assignments, and learning how to balance equations. Christine is teaching me that chemistry is all around us. I enjoy my tutoring sessions with Christine, she teaches in a way that allows me to grasp what I might not understand.
With just one lesson, Christine made my son feel more confident about his algebra skills. She is kind and patient.

Christine was able to help clarify how to factor Algebra by grouping. it cleared up the mystery steps that were being skipped without understanding the step. My daughter with in that session got it and was able to do every homework problem. That confidence helps her to not get in the "weeds" and aids in quickness to solving the Algebra.
Christine tutored my daughter in algebra 2. She was patient and kind. I was pleased with how flexible she was with her schedule.

Excellent! Christine is always prepared and brings games to make my daughter do math in her head. She's been coming for a couple of months and my 14 year old has improved two letter grades. I only wish we had started earlier.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a teacher certified in Elementary Education (Kindergarten through 8th grade.) I can help your student understand concepts taught in the elementary grades. I have worked in the public school system, co-teaching in a variety of classrooms and as a pull out instructor. I have co-taught Everyday Math and Connected Math and find that both require a great deal of problem solving to complete. As a parent, it is difficult to understand why the math homework is not the drill and practice you might have grown up with. Let me help you help your child become more successful.
With 4 children of my own, I have learned that each child is unique. Yet, they all go through the same developmental processes. My 3rd child has difficulties with speech, which we are working out through the utilization of reading with phonics. Once he sees the letters are in the words, it helps him pronounce the words better. With my special education and elementary education degrees, let me help your child too.
After teaching a college level class called Critical thinking and problem solving, I realized that many of the skills we worked on involved time management and study skills. Working with special education students over the years, that was one of our major issues: how to study. So, the experience I have is very diverse from 1st grade through College students. We can work on developing a time management system to help with the studying that has to take place in your life. We can work on developing your study skills so that you can become a better student. I am willing to travel 20 or so miles just to help you.
