Working with people is one of my great passions in life. I enjoy seeing people reach their best and fullest potential through the assistance of others. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I work with a variety of individuals to help them identify problems and help them to come up with solutions. With tutoring I will take the same approach, helping you to improve academically. My method of teaching involves clarifying the concepts that you are struggling with, while also teaching ways to better understand the material in the future.
I understand that each student will learn things in a different way and can customize what I am doing to reflect individual needs. I believe that all people need help occasionally and will strive to provide a supportive environment to help my students increase their knowledge and understanding. When it comes to teaching, the best method that I have found is to focus on showing how the course content relates to the student's own life. When a student can see how the courses and information relates to their own lives, it becomes easier to remember and to understand.
I have a masters degree in clinical psychology, including an understanding of the major theories, theorists, and concepts related to the field. I also have experience in Statistics and statistical analysis. The field of sociology is similar to psychology conceptually, with many theories and concepts translating from one field to the other. In undergrad I minored in philosophy, with an emphasis on Ethics and general theories. It is my goal to present information related to these fields in a way that is accessible for my students.
History is one of the most important fields to study. A full understanding of the past is required to keep from making similar mistakes in the future. History should not be viewed as a simple collection of dates and names, but rather the story of human events. My goal is to make this information interesting, accessible, and memorable for my students.
If you are looking for a tutor that is knowledgeable, non-judgmental, and adaptable then please feel free to contact me. I want people to feel comfortable asking for, and receiving, the help that they need. I want my students to be able to understand the material and will do my best to ensure that the concepts are explained in a way that they can relate to. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
