I believe learning should be fun and effective, and that is my purpose in every lesson that I teach. I like to build on the students' interests and what is already working for them to help them succeed in areas where they would like to improve.
My schedule is currently pretty full. I am looking to serve students who may need an occasional lesson on the weekend or a weekday morning or during a winter or summer break (when most kids are normally on vacation).
I have a business as an Early Education Enrichment Educator, and I like to incorporate my materials into lessons with the younger kids: activities, songs, and games for reading, math, and writing.
I have been a teacher for 10 years and a tutor for two years. I have a B.A. in Elementary Education, a minor in Spanish, and an M.S. in Literacy. The majority of my teaching has been in 4th grade, but I have experience tutoring students of all grade levels and ages. My greatest interest and expertise is in math, reading, and writing. Writing is my passion, and I love finding, creating, and sharing strategies to assist students with math and reading. I've thought about trying reading and writing workshop with small tutoring groups. Please let me know if you're interested.
I also love Spanish. I've taught Spanish to students from 2nd to 8th grade, I've taught some beginning Spanish to adults, and I've also tutored high school students in Spanish I and II.
Finally, I have been a School of Metaphysics student for over a year and recently started teaching. One of my daily practices and studies is dream interpretation. If you are interested in a dream coaching session, keep a record of your dreams in a dream journal by writing them down immediately when you wake up. During our coaching session we will identify and interpret the main symbols in your dreams, find the themes for your dreams, look for connections to your previous experiences, and apply your dream toward goals for growth and self-improvement.
I'm excited to begin working with you! I believe learning should be fun and effective, and that is my purpose in every lesson that I teach. I like to build on the students' interests and what is already working for them to help them succeed in areas where they would like to improve.

It was only the first lesson, but Rian is understanding more. She loves Teresa, which is important. It makes her eager to learn and want to do better.
Our first lesson was great. She is patient and supportive. She is encouraging and helpful. My daughter can't wait for her next lesson!!!!
This was our first meeting with Teresa. I thought Teresa is very knowledgeable in the subject matter that we are seeking. Megan told me she likes her teaching style and she is more than happy to continue the tutoring sessions with Teresa in the future. Personally, I thought Teresa is very sweet and patient with Megan. I have confidence that Teresa can help Megan improve her reading and writing skills in English. -Alan, Megan's Father
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been an elementary school teacher for 9 years and have worked with students with ADD, ADHD, and both. I believe tutoring is the best option to help these special students improve academically because they benefit the most from the focus of one-on-one attention and instruction.
I have played clarinet from middle school all through college and beyond. Recently I've been playing in the American Winds Band and the Joliet Symphony Orchestra.
I am a certified teacher for grades K-8 and have been teaching for 9 years.
I am an elementary bilingual teacher, so I have extensive experience in working with students who need to learn the complexity of English phonics, especially the vowels. I love the English language, and I know what books and materials to use to help students in the areas they need.
I have a Masters in Literacy, and this subject has been one of my favorite parts of teaching. I am an avid reader, and I bring this energy to my work with students. My favorite part of the teaching day has been guided reading instruction, in which I introduce a book, assess a student's strengths and needs, and focus on a particular skill with that student.
I have played softball since the age of 5. I have experience playing infield and outfield. I've been coached by my dad, who has been playing twice as long as I have! I throw righty and bat lefty!
I taught bilingual students in the Valley View School district for 9 years and taught Spanish to the 2nd- through 8th-graders at an area school for one year. I've also been tutoring high school students and adults in beginning and intermediate level Spanish for the past 2 years. !Me encanta el espanol!
I got straight A's except for 2 B's in high school (both 91%) and I had a GPA over 3.91 for my B.A. and a 4.0 in my Master's Degree. I am good at finding different means to learn and remember material, and I enjoy the challenge of taking tests. I am accustomed to teaching my students how to work backwards from the target, reading the questions, eliminating wrong answer choices, and looking for clues and evidence to find the correct answer.
Writing is my all-time favorite subject -- and I write daily! I've written for moneybasicsu.com, lifehack.org, healthtoday.com, and the Enterprise/Bugle.
My goal in writing to is draw on students' interests to help make writing an enjoyable experience. The best writing is inspired writing!
For younger students, I have experience with Step Up to Writing to help with writing structure.
I enjoy conferencing with students to help them develop their own sense of their writing and what strengths and needs they have.
I also love grammar, spelling, and proofreading in general!
